London Restaurants( The Ivy/ Gordon Ramsay@Claridges)

jessica.rabbit, 10 December, 2008 at 23:12 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

Has anyone visited these restaurants for lunch? Also, does anyone have any other London restaurant recommendations?

Yes. (Not eaten at Claridges/GR, but a number of times at the Ivy. We also had our wedding reception there many moons ago.)

Could be speaking through my hat, but to my mind they are quite different places in terms of what they offer. (The Ivy is posh comfort food and more of a diner-style menu - or was.)

To narrow it down a bit: what's the occasion, what food do you like, and what's important for this meal?

Haven't eaten at Claridges for a while, but used to go there for lunch a fair bit and always enjoyed it...without knowing the occasion, I would also reccomend Maze and the Michel Roux place on Pall Mall (forgotton the name...too early in the morning for me!)...or I also like L'Escargot, but have only been there for dinner...

To me the Ivy is overated. Back in the day it was cool to be seen there but now there are far nicer places to eat. Someone else has said it's well made comfort food.

I've had dinner at GR Claridges which was far nicer than The Ivy.

I second Maze Grill for a great steak. There are plenty of places to choose from really, some lesser known places like Wild Honey or Arbatus, Nicoles. Cafe Anglais, Alain DuCasse. I like China Tang at The Dorchester to.

I had dinner at GR Claridges and didn't rate it at all (nothing bad to speak of as such, just nothing outstanding. The food was just 'ok').

I'd recommend Petrus - now called Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley, I believe. ❤️ Can't rave about that place enough - fabulous in every way (although not been for a year so hopefully it hasn't changed)

Thanks everyone. There is no special occasion really. We are just spending a few days with the kids in London sightseeing as part of our Christmas break.
