Hi

i wonder if anyone could help me...im looking for a pub in london to have our wedding reception in. locations not too important but we're keen to have a band, outside space and,if possible,a late licence (until say 2).i thought that this would be fairly easy to source but admit that im struggling! any help/advice would be gratefully received.

thanks again x

This is a hard one if you really dont have any preference on location! I live in Wimbledon but the only pub with a beer garden is the Rose and Crown. In Putney there are several nice pubs by the river with outdoor space?

I just tried doing an advanced search of pubs.com looking for beer garden, open all day, and all day food and it came up with some places including the Albion in Islington? Not that I know it.

thinking about it, have you thought of trying to get somewhere right up central, literally in the city, because some of those are really dead on a weekend and your party might be able to take over the whole thing? you could get a really cool location - what is that pub down by the tate - The Ship? right on the river!

sorry not to be more helpful but thought i would at least try. :-)

Thats a great help, thank you! Thinking about it, the city might be a goer especially as we will have family coming from out of london so it would be nice for them to be right in the heart of things (but not mobbed by people) - i'll check it out. thanks again x

    Have you tried The Tommyfield?

I went there a few years back for an engagement party and it's a really lovely venue! They have a private function room upstairs that looks lovely when decorated and looks super nice and cosy at night. Their website is:

    www.thetommyfield.com

Looks like they have a license until 1am too. Not sure about the live band front, you'd have to ask on that one.

How many guests are you thinking of having? Are you wanting a sit down meal, buffet or just drinks?

    Viewlondon.co.uk might be helpful!

City restaurants that are worth looking in to:

Chiswell St Dining Rooms, Smiths of Smithfield, 3 South Place, Coq D'Argent, Devonshire Terrace.

Some of them will have outside terraces!

I completely forgot about Trafalgar Tavern, I absolutely love this place! I go there for a drink quite regularly, and I also went to a birthday party in their function room a few months back, which was a really good space (it also had a downstairs area as well, with a set up for DJ, not sure if this is always placed there or whether it could be space for a live band) and the food is really nice. It also sits right on the Thames and has a lovely little view from the windows. ?

Not sure about the outside space, but I am sure you could (pay to) extend the license and it is a lovely venue...

We initially wanted a pub wedding and I did loads of research, but in the end we couldn't find anywhere suitable. We wanted outside space too and this is the issue! Pubs in the City that do exclusive hire at weekends often just have tables on the street or no outside space at all, and pub function rooms are usually upstairs with no access to the garden.

Anyway I don't know what your budget is like but have a look at the following (all north/east, I didn't look at south of the river <shudder> ?)

The Albion, Islington - amazing food & garden

The Londesborough, Stoke Newington - have done loads of weddings, v pretty, exclusive hire, around £5k min spend

Scolt Head, Islington - lovely garden

The Gun, Docklands - great terrace

Garden Bar & Grill, Notting Hill - amazing garden and marquee

The Alma, Newington Green - £5k min spend, great garden

The Narrow, Limehouse - amazing location, Gordon Ramsey food, very spendy!

The Brittania, Hackney - huge garden, backs on to Victoria Park

Princess of Wales, Primrose Hill - downstairs bar & garden, quite cool, low min spend

The Vine, Kentish Town - pretty function room with access to garden

The Junction Tavern, Tufnell Park - conservatory and garden to hire

Lamb Tavern, Leadenhall Market - fab location, not strictly speaking outside!

Geronimo Inns - London pub company with several pubs/rooms to hire

The Northbank - right on the river

    Rotunda, Kings Cross

    The Waterline Bar, Kings Cross

Davy's Wine Bars - various locations, lots in the City, some with outside space

Not a pub, but another place is the Brewery on Chiswell Street. It has a courtyard which can be used during events I believe! x

I went to a wedding in Chancery Lane a little while ago. Can't remember the name but it was a weatherspoons that didn't open at weekends. They brought in their own caterers and everything. It was lovely. Had amazing toilets too!

We're getting married in the Knight's Templar. It's a phenomenal venue, and the package they offer is really good value.
