Loose Woman / Abortion - what a judgemental woman !

jelly baby, 8 July, 2008 at 13:12 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

I can't believe what a silly, judgemental, narrow minded woman – who probably reads the Daily Mail - Linda Bellingham (the oxo lady) is. After saying that women just use abortion as a contraceptive she went on to say “all these people who have an abortion, and then when they get older can’t get pregnant – well, it’s obvious why isn’t it”

I am fuming. Many of you will know the huge guilt I carry about having an abortion (at the age of 27, so not a silly little girl). I've been reassured many times by medical professionals that the reason I'm struggling to conceive is nothing to do with having had an abortion. For someone to make a statement like that on national TV, making it sound like it's factually correct, has made me so so so angry.

I'm glad I didn't see that. I hope they pull her up on it.

I think Loose women is really just aimed at thick people. Actually, I know it it, I know someone who works on it.

That doesn't excuse her though, i'd be tempted to email ITV. Its like people who say "what if you had an abortion then could never get pregnant again...." errr, surely the knowledge that you are furtile is more assurance than someone who has no idea until they try?

I cannot stand that programme. I find all of them extremely irritating. I hope she's pulled up on it too.

I cannot stand the programme, but what an incredibly irresponsible and stupid thing to say. I really hope she gets pulled up on that one.

I don't actually mind Linda B normally. Her, Jane McDonald and Carol McGiffin can be very un PC and I sometimes like their honesty. However I don't of course agree with on this.

My best mate had an abortion when she was 28 (bad news all round. She was having an affair etc). It haunted her for a long while. She got pg very easily when she's settled down but then her first child had a life threatening heart condition. She convinced herself that it was her 'karma' and that she deserved it because of the abortion. She's well over it now and has 2 more healthy children (so obviously falls pg very easily!). However statements such as LB's just don't help anyone.

I would never judge someone who had an abortion as it's such a personal thing that no-one else has the right to have any say at all..

I can't agree with half of what Sherrie Hewson, Zoe Tyler or Lynda Bellingham say so I steer clear when they are on. Carol McGiffin is the one whose views most mirror my own but she seems to be spending more and more time in either Thailand or Paris so I hardly watch it any more.

Exactly. I can see the headlines now "Loose women guest is judgemental and ill-informed".

Probably bring the country to a stand-still.

Email ITV to complain, how horrible and judgemental.

I don't watch it, when I have I found it irritated me so I had to turn it off.

I've already emailed them - fired it off in a pique of anger so it's perhaps not the most diplomatically worded email ever.

See, normally i quite enjoy the program (I must be thick) and find it quite amusing. I don't necessarily agree with what some of them say but can see why they think it. I guess her comments annoyed me because she said it as though it was a fact and it does affect me personally so probably took it a bit more to heart than normal.

It was quite obvious that Jane McDonald was really biting her tongue, in fact she even said at one point "I'm not even going to say what I think about that comment". I hope she had a right go at her after the show.

    I was just thinking that.

It's got to be controversial in the same way that tabloid press has to be - it's designed to "entertain" rather than inform...

I was livid after watching this once when Carol made a comment about IVF. I was outraged. Never heard anything back, obviously.
