Loud music from neighbours

Buttons, 17 April, 2009 at 14:24 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

Can I really object to my neighbour playing loud music during the daytime?

The banging of the base is doing my head in, in fact even though I have turned my TV up a bit I can still hear it.

We recently complained to the council about loud music at the weekends and they talked to the neighbour, which I was worried about and expected problems. I wonder if this is the backlash?

I'm at home by myself at the moment as i'm on my mat leave and even when I keep myself busy sorting baby's room or trying to relax I keep worrying about the neighbours.

I don't think you can rreally complain because its during the day. Maybe if it goes on for 2 or 3 hours you could knock and ask them.

You certainly can complain. It doesn't matter that it's in the daytime. Our next door neighbours son had a drumkit that he used to play on as soon as he got home from school weekdays, and most of the day on the weekend. We eventually contacted the environmental health dept. who visited them, and told them they had to tone the noise down.

You can complain at any time of the day, even if its just 15 mins etc.. Its a PITA, we have a neighbour that does the same.

What goonergirl and peanut said. You definitely can complain at any time of day. The law states that you are entitled to 'quiet enjoyment' of your property. If you can still hear his base over your TV then that's not quiet enjoyment.

Might be worth making a note of the date, time and duration of the noise nuisance, in case it happens on a regular basis.

Thanks all. I have been noting done the times and things of the noise to take further if I have to. Its so annoying to have to deafen yourself with your own TV to hear over the neighbours noise.

This post reminds me of my ex next door neighbours and one of the reasons why I was so desperate to move. The noise of the tom tom drums was constant from the moment I got in from work until about midnight.... dum, dum, dum.... etc I used to put my tv volume up... I could still hear it. I once complained and got my back window of my car put through.... they also used to pick on my lad - they grabbed hold of his head and banged it against a brick wall.

Needless to say we've moved now. We were fortunate enough that H's folks lent us money for a deposit so we could move before selling. Anyway, when we put the house up for sale, we heard countless horror stories from the estate agent about the music and that they thought they were doing it deliberately - which they probably did cramp it up once they knew the house was empty..... oh, they also wanted to buy the place (they thought it was over priced but we got full value so up theirs!)

Hope you get some peace soon - I understand how frustrated you must be x
