Luxury present ideas for busy Mums, under a £10

Clairy, 6 November, 2008 at 16:52 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 21

I have lots of people to say 'thank you' to, so I thought I'd buy them a Christmas present. Problem is things are a bit tight ? Some need to be postable, but I'd like something that would really stand out as indulgent, desirable or good quality. Is that asking a lot for a tenner? ?

Any ideas? All Mums of our generation.

Well I'm not a Mom but I love the Daylesford products. These are around a tenner

Someone gave me some Jurlique rose hand cream recently, which is utterly lovely. No idea of the price but I would imagine about a tenner as you don't get much.

Hotel chocolat doesnt scream quality or indulgence to me i m afraid. i think doing it for less than a tenner will be tough.

Ooh I like the idea of handcream - will check those out, thank you.

I saw some lovely Cath Kidston bath cube thingys - but even though I like CK, I know not everyone else does, so I thought that might be a bad idea.

Go to the make up counter - someone (lancome or similar) will be selling packs of three lip glosses for £20 ish, which you can split. Alternatively I get the White Company votive candles (christmas fragrance, which are about £15 I think (plus voucher code and quidco cashback) and split them - you could give two, wrapped in tissue paper and cellophane. That's what I used to do for the dtaff at J's nursery.

(agree with Nick re Hotel Chocolat choccies. Try Rococo or similar; perhaps you have a local chocolatiere which might be cheaper than a nationwide)

You could probably get 3 small things from Lush (shampoo, conditioner and a bubble bar?) and put them in a nice gift box with some stuffing? Not that kind of stuffing ?

For the utterly hard up - babysitting tokens (you make them to symbolise a babysitting offer). I wish my friends would give us these for christmas rather than breaking their bank.

Also, what about some of the Boots 3 for 2 gift sets like Soap & Glory, The Sanctuary, Rosie & Millie etc? I think they have some quite nice ones around a tenner, then you could get 3 for £20

PS I've had those HC buttons - sub Cadbury's if you ask me. Not good.

Oh these are fabbity fab. I didn't even think of splitting packs. Am loving the lipgloss / candle idea.

Babysitting vouchers are a great idea, but I don't really know any of these ladies well enough IYSWIM, and most of them are at least an hour's drive away.

There's a fab Lush in Hull too.

Interesting what you all say about HdC. I have only ever had some once in Birmingham and, nice as it was, it wasn't all that different to normal Cadburys. It's just something I often see touted on here and I wondered whether I was missing out ?

I think to the vast majority of mums, who tend to spend whatever disposable income they have on their children rather than themselves, ANYTHING that they wouldn't buy for themselves and get to enjoy all to themselves, IS a luxury.

So though the HdC chocs aren't particularly special in themselves I think they'd hit the mark.

As would bath oil, a scented candle, a glass or 2 of cold white wine and an hour to soak.

Feel free to say its crap but .....

i am a mum and barely get 5 mins for a treat for myself so I have made little gifts for my friends called "only ever 5 minutes from a chocolate cake" Its a reciepe for chocolate cake which cooks in the microwave in (surprise surprise!) 5 mins, in a mug.

i got a plain coloured large mug, filled little sealed bags with the ingredients, made a little tag up with the receipe and instructions, wrapped in cellophane and ribbons et voila, a quick, easy and relatively cheap pressie.

i sell them with my other crafty bits but if you pm me I could let you know the things needed.

Do you need to be able to buy online? I find TK Maxx (I recommend that bloody shop so often I should be on commission) really great for random bits and bobs/great gifts. They sometimes have some really lovely home stuff but also some good beauty products, soaps, handcreams, lipglosses etc.

Sorry - don't know if this is any use but you could make a load of fudge or home-made biscuits or something? A little bit more time involved - but can be lovely for not much money?

What about nail polish? Chanel ones are a bit over budget at £15 but some of the other big brands are a bit cheaper.

At the moment, the concept of spending any money on myself is just alien. Anything would be greeted with pathetic little sighs, I suspect.

I said this to my sisters and they looked at me like I was mad. I want a whole day to myself, so I can sort my house out and then go out with Mr R for the evening.

Champneys toilietires would make my day. They're very luxorious (by my standards) and are nicely packaged. Oddly enough, Sainsburys sell them and I think they're doing some sort of buy one, get one half rpice or similar on Christmas gifts so you'd definitely manage a tenner a piece I'd have thought.

I do Avon, and have noticed a lot of my customers buying things on the "5 for £5" deal. Can make up a quite nice set and with the £5 left buy a box and tissue paper etc to nicely package it?

Those that have emailed me, I havent forgotten but been busy with a card order, will email the details today i promise

Some fab ideas here, thank you. I was going to give them all the same, but now I'm going to have fun picking individual things ?
