M and S wedding cake

loobyg, 18 June, 2008 at 19:03 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hey guys, has anyone had an M and S cake for their wedding? The one we want is apparently 64 portions but how big is a portion?! Using the cake as our dessert so want people to have a decent amount! Will be buying extra 'cutting bars' to make up to the right number, just wondering how many extra bars to order!!

Ta! L

Oddly enough I am looking at their cakes right now lol.

I dont think they are big portions as I have my trusty tape measure out and they dont seem that big, well to me anyways

We had the standard cakes last year, before they launched the new ones.

We had one each small, medium & large fruit and an extra large sponge for 100 portions which was more than enough. Portion is the usual size you get for a wedding cake - kind of pack of cards sized.

The M&S cakes are not as tall as "proper" wedding cakes but really delicious and reasonable. We hired a cake stand from a local kitchen shop and decorated it with flower corsages and a personalised cake topper.

We had the 3 tier cake - one fruit, one sponge, one chocolate - was totally lush. We got 2 extra cutting slabs and the main cake wasn't actually cut at all on the night although we didn't use it for dessert so .... they're not huge cakes but they are quite rich so you'd probably not want to give massive pieces out after a 1 or 2 course meal. Which one you going for??

Not having one that is an 'official' wedding cake, having the milk and white chocolate three present stack, as H2B wants a chocolate cake!

The engineer is now home and has corrected my maths ? and we have decided that, as its a dessert we shall have two portions per person - one portion is roughly 3cm square - not really enough for a dessert!!

Sorry to crash, but we're planning on buying a sponge bar from M&S for those who don't like fruit cake. How far in advance did you lot order?

Hi, i think 2 portions is enough for desert. we're having the bog-standard wedding cake from M&S and its yummy!

we're doing the 1 portion per person as a nibble with tea and coffee on the evening buffet. Cake is 144 portions plus 1 cutting cake as i'm saving the top tier for the BBQ my mum is having the next day.

Hi, we ordered ours 28 days in advance (min is 21days) but Waitrose who also do yummy cakes just upped their order time to 42 days so i was getting worried M&S couldn't do it.

    hey

    crash (pretty please icon)

The cake lady i was relying on has just announce she is not doing cakes any more. So, i am attemtpting to do it myself.!?!

I am on the Iook, I want a really basic cake and gonna add extras (mainly sparkle). the venue is providing silver cake base.

Basically, had my heart set on 1st layer plain sponge, 2nd layer chocolate, 3rd layer coffee and top plain victoria. Is this possible or too much to ask for!?

melancholie: can't rmemebr off the top of my head but the order times etc are in the back of their e-brochure - I think you only have to order a week in advance and they recommend you pick up three days before, and i think they last 2 weeks (although I'm guessing the fruit will last longer).. but don't hold me to that

Donna: they do wedding cakes and novelty birthday cakes as far as I can make out - http://www.marksandspencer.com/gp/node/n/51458031/202-5329747-5566234?ie=UTF8&mnSBrand=core

Without looking, am I correct in saying that their non-standard cakes are a lot dearer than they used to be ?

If so, have you considered a quote from a cake maker in your area ?

    Just a thought...
