Makeup

I’m really in two minds about hiring a makeup artist for the wedding, there is myself and six bridesmaids, 4 of which feel very comfortable doing their own makeup, I feel very happy with my makeup ability but do you think I’m being crazy. I would love to do my own and my bridesmaids but will I feel differently on the day.I’ve been considering one of the Charlotte Tilbury wedding makeup classes has anyone done one before and has any thoughts. Also has anyone done there own makeup or are considering it and felt it actually relieved stress because you were in control.

It might not be a problem doing your own makeup, but I think it might be a bit too much doing makeup for two of your bridesmaids as well! What do they usually do? Do they wear makeup normally? If not, would they be happy to go makeup-free on the day? Or can you get the other bridesmaids to help the girls who aren't confident?

I'm doing my own makeup because I don't wear it often and I don't wear much when I do. I was worried about paying all that money to a MUA to end up not looking like myself. I have spent about £50 buying some new makeup so some of mine was so old. I've had 2 practice sessions so far and hoping for another 2 before the big day. Then I'll feel comfortable knowing exactly what colours I'm using, how I'm doing it and how long it will take.

If you are really happy with your ability then I see no reason why you can't do your own. Although I do agree with the earlier comment that I wouldn't recommend you being responsible for 2 of your bridesmaids as well. It could be fun all sitting together sharing tips and suggestions as you do your makeup on the day but I would ask your other 4 bridesmaids to take the lead with the 2 that aren't as comfortable.

You don't have to hire one.

It's also ok to hire one for yourself and not the bridesmaids N especially if they are happy doing their own. Most HMUAs I looked at do let you do that though sone have a surcharge if you dont have bridesmaids.

I was also in two minds as I have been doing my own for 35 years!
In the end I hired a MUA for me and my only bridesmaid. My reasoning was it will probably be the only time in my life that I use a professional. I’m glad I did as I don’t think the look was better than I could have done but it lasted the whole day including tears! It also forced me to sit down and relax in the morning when I would probably have been dashing around dressing the venue and not left enough time to do a good job. The marquee did not have all the ivy draped all over it as I’d planned but I looked great on the day!

Is it an option to have one to just do yours and have the bridemaids help eachother if they’re happy with that? If you can’t get pampered on your wedding day, when can you! But if you want to do your own then I see no reason why not. ☺️
