Make-up needed?

Francesca, 19 May, 2023 at 20:24 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 6
Hi everyone! I just needed some unbiased opinions… I wanted to get just my makeup done on the day (bride) to save money as I am paying for all my bridesmaids do get their hair done day of but a lot of makeup artists do 3 minimum, do you think it’s worth me booking a makeup artist at all? I don’t usually wear foundation just eyeliner and blush but I would love to look beautiful on my wedding day! Thanks in advance Smiley smile x

It's entirely up to you. If you can afford it, and having makeup done professionally on the day would be something special and enjoyable for you, then go for it. But otherwise, don't. Wear what you normally do when you want to look good. I think it's much better to stick to whatever you do for a special day out normally, as that way, you look like yourself in the photos. (I didn't wear makeup at all for my wedding, because I never ever do wear makeup - the photos came out fine, so don't listen to anyone who tells you that you will be washed out if you don't go for professional makeup - that's rubbish!)

If you don't wear a lot of makeup and that makes you feel beautiful then don't feel any pressure to do something different on your wedding day. If you want to do more than your usual look then just practice a few times so you feel comfortable with the look and your ability.

I did my own makeup because I don't wear it often and I wanted to still feel like myself. I did a few practice runs until I was happy and then made a detailed list of what I used (including which eye shadow colours on my palettes) and in what order.

I am hopeless with my own make up (amd hardly wear it) so I am sucking it up and paying for a MUA. I feel affirmed in this decision after having my trial as she listened really well to what I wanted and I felt like myself still. I wasn't going to have my hair done but when I offered to pay for my bridesmaids they said they would rather pay for themselves so I could have both as the bride. I didn't let them but found the budget so I could have both and be pampered. It is a lot of money though so I appreciate not everyone is in this position. Bobby Brown make up tutorials are another option.

Also if you have a combined hair and make up artist, you might be able to get the combo you want!

Heya! Im a makeup artist and my best advice would be - if you're not too sure, you could always book a makeup lesson with an artist who can go through a consultation with you. They will ask about your skin, your ideal look and can recommend the best ways to create it. (I would say 65% of our job is perfecting & preparing the clients skin before we even consider visible makeup.)

A lesson will also give you personalised tips and tricks that we look out for - For example ears! They can show up quite red in photos, especially after a glass of bubbly or two so make sure to put a little bit of coverage on them...

Hope you have a fantastic wedding day with or without an artist Smiley smile x

I'm all in favour of someone getting professional makeup done if that's what they want, but please don't tell people their photos will look bad if they don't use makeup. If the photographer is any good, he/she will be able to take good natural pictures even if you're not wearing any makeup at all.
