Mallorca wedding advice?

Nellsbells, 12 January, 2013 at 08:34 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 76

Im getting married in Majorca in September this year (2013). I chose Majorca having spent every summer there since i was born... We have selected Son Brull hotel in Pollensa, and i was wondering if anyone else had got married here as the photos on their Facebook book and website are limited. We will be having a civil ceremony in the UK before heading out to Majorca to have a blessing... having never been witness to a blessing... is it pretty much the same as a civil ceremony?

Also does anyone have any suggestions for florists or wedding car hire out there?

    Hi Nellsbells,

i am also getting married in Majorca this year in June.

i haven't yet sorted out my cars or flowers but I did meet with the florist Joanna Walton when I was over there last and she seemed great.

I am struggling with finding a cool band at the moment so if you have any suggestions that would be amazing!

    Thanks!

Thanks Mousey_1 - I am speaking with Joanne Walton too... she has some nice pictures on her website and so am hoping to meet up with her when i head over there in March.

Likewise also struggling with a cool band and cars - the music options seem somewhat limited and in my opinion most a little too cabaret!

Keep me posted if you find anyone - or a good car company! And i will too.

Whereabouts are you getting married out there?

Hi we are getting married next year and have also chosen son Brull!

we spoke with the vicar at st andrews in puerto pollensa square. He explained that basically it will appear to your guests that the wedding is the same as a uk wedding, however the only thing that is any different is that he won't ask "does anone know any reason that these 2 should not marry"

we aren't even telling our guests that we wil be married in the uk!!!!!

we are going back to Mallorca in may to look into son Brull a bit further and try to find cake shops etc

its difficult organising from afar isn't it!!

    have you sorted photographers etc?

    Nellsbells ....... http://europeluxurycarhire.com/rent-luxury-cars-spain/mallorca

they have some really flash cars that you can hire for the day.....I haven't looked at a quote yet but I liked the cars!!!! One of the best men has offered to drive too

have you hired a wedding planner? Some will be there for you just on the day so may help with language barriers etc

I am attending a wedding fair at Son Brull next weekend 9th March, and am hoping that the hotel will be set up as it would at weddings. Will be taking lots of pictures – I can send some over to you if you would like when I return.

I too am meeting with Joanna Walton and also another florist based in Pollensa. Trying to squeeze in as much as I can within the 48 hours I am there for next weekend. I have also had a recommendation for hair and make up through a friend and can send you their details as well if you would like.

I agree its hard planning from a far – mostly struggling with band/entertainment choices – most seem a little too ex-cruise ship for my liking! Have you had any recommendations?

What date are you getting married?

Photographer wise we are taking one out with us… it was actually cheaper to fly her out for 48 hours than the quotes I was getting for photographers over there. The photographer did my sister’s wedding last year and was amazing.

See, taking you photographer with you is a fab plan! And you know u love their work! We are really interested in a company based in pollensa called huma06 and they will be at that wedding fair too! Yeah some photos would be fab thanks, we like the idea of the chill out style seating as we want a BBQ and for it to be really chilled out!

Sn Brull is the most amazing venue I am sure we will both have fabulous photos and memories!

We haven't even thought about a band yet....... My h2b isn't very hands on with it at the moment as it is miles away, but it will soon sneak up on him!

When are u getting married? How many guests are u planning on?

I really like the chill out style too but am tempted by the formal sit down – although concerned about eating outside early evening in case its chilly. Our wedding date is 21st September - so just out of season but I am scaring myself reading that the weather overview in that its Majorcas wettest month! That said though nothing compared to the rain we have here! We have about 70 guests flying out – we invited that number thinking we would be lucky to get half but everyone is really up for it and its quite overwhelming that so many have booked. How about yourself?

Your right Son Brull is amazing – the dramatic view of it as you drive up to it I love! How come you chose Son Brull – is it somewhere you have visited before?

Ditto my h2b isn’t very hands on either – Although saying that I am quite a control freak and take the lead! At the moment he just happy to get his confirmation when its needed!

I have been holiday-ing in puerto pollensa since I was 7, and went over to work there during my uni years. It is so close to my heart! One year my mum n dad discovered son Brull, and I took my h2b there and he lived it instantly. We have been back for a relaxed bottle of wine several times, and it seemed the perfect venue to celebrate! How did you chose it?

I wouldn't worry too much about septembers weather, it will be fine! Plus the inside are ie the bar is equally spectacular

    70!!!!!!!!!! Fabulous!!!!!!

We looked to invite 40, I have 52 on my list, but realistically I think it will be closerto 45

i am busy trying to sort out my invites....... Looking at them online at the moment!

let me know how the wedding fair goes.....I really wish that we could get there too.... Will u let me know what the bands are like if there are any there? That's what we are struggling on most at the moment, I don't want it to be cheesey !!!!!!!!

How many bridesmaids / groomsmen are you planning to have?

    so many quesions sorry !!!!!!!!

If anyone needs help with the music for their event, then you should look into the following service. As part of the RSVPs for our wedding, we asked guests to select a couple of tracks they wanted to hear on the day. My partner, who has been in the music business for many years, then created an amazing 3 hour continuous mix from our guest's selections. The venue supplied a sound system and we simply put the mix on using an iPod, let everyone hit the dance floor and create their own atmosphere. No need for a cheesy DJ, just great guests, great location and great music properly mixed together. If this sounds interesting then click on the link in my signature or email my husband directly: ****@**********.**.**. If you want to hear some sample mixes, visit his Soundcloud page: https://soundcloud.com/mypartymix. Also much cheaper than a DJ and you get to keep the mix everyone enjoyed for posterity. Good luck!

Likewsie I have also been going for years… I bet our paths have crossed many atimes no doubt! We chose it in a similar way… my dad wanted to visit it, so about 5 years ago we all ewnt for dinnr. Me and my h2b literally feel in love with it the minute we arrived and I said – when we get married its going to be here… fast forward 5 years and here we are!

The wedding event was absolutely amazing - it was so good to see it all set up and gave us lots of ideas. They have just posted a couple of pictrues on the Facebook page but I also took lots of pictures if you wanted to see them.

We also met with two florists both were fab – Joanna Walton and Pam (cant think surname). Both were really nice and gave us some great ideas!

I also had a hair and make up trial with Jennifer Jane who actually was recommended to me… http://www.jenniferjane.es and she was great – really nice and was very pleased with the results!

Invitewise I have used a friend of mine who is a designer – I got an idea of what I liked online and then asked her to redesign it based on what we like.

For ushers we are having one best mand and three ushers, and I am having my two sisters. How about you?

Bandwise there were a fab band playing – the main signer was a girl and she had a really lovely voice, they also had a DJ playing who was also really good. I am speaking with Marianne from www.velvetmusic.tv/mallorca.htm and she has been in finding me music people – we have a strong duo for during the ceremony and canapés and still looking around for the evening.

Are you getting excited? Are you visiting Son brull before your big day? Have you picked your dress?

what were the seating arrangements like? I know that's random just I fancied a less formal option and it was just cushions on the floor on their website.... Is this still the case?

i found the velvet music site...... I think I may contact them

We are going across to puerto pollensa in may and plan to meet with the photographer and to son brbrull think I will look up the har girl too

    Hi Ladies

Sorry to interupt your convo, I am desperately trying to find a venue in Pollensa, and im really struggling, mainly due to the fact that all the hotels want a 4 night minimum stay, i feel bad asking my guests to cough up for an expensive hotel when im already asking them to travel all the way to Majorca in the first place, id rather give them a cheaper choice of accomodation. Could you give me an idea of what Son Brulls prices are like?? ive visited the hotel a couple of times and it looks beautiful, thanks so much x

    Hey...... Ur not interrupting!

Depending on the time of year, the average price a night at son Brull is 300quid....... But if u book ur wedding there they don't expect that u will hire bebedrooms easyjet and jet2 do holidays to pollensa, and they do short trips to

alternatively, you could hire a big villa n share the costs!

where you thinking of marrying and when?

Hi, thanks for the reply, were looking at June 2014, we like Casal Santa Eulalia www.casal-santaeulalia.com/en/

This would be our first choice but theres the annoying 'hiring the whole hotel out' The prices are cheaper than Son Brull per head but it works out roughly the same. So Stressful!!!!

    Hi Ladies

Not sure whether this feed is still running, as I assume a couple of you have already enjoyed the big day!

But I wondered whether you could share some info. I'm getting married in Mallorca next August (similar stories to a couple of you, my family have had a holiday home here for the past 10 years and so it just seemed to make sense to get wed out here too!).

I wanted to ask who you all went with music and decor/ flowers- wise. As we are currently in the process of getting in touch with companies for both.

Also, for hair and make up I'd love any recommendations that you have

Thanks so much. Any suggestions would be wonderful

Hi, thanks, and to you too!

We've booked our date for 23rd August (the day we got engaged this year)! Figured on the heat, and so we're having the wedding early evening (hoping it'll be a little cooler up in the mountains by then).

We're getting married at Cas Xorc, and luckily accom/ catering is already sorted so I'm just looking into music/ djs, florists and any wedding decor companies on the island.

    Any help would be great.

    Where are you getting married?

I got married in September in Son Brull in Pollensa and oh my god it was amazing. Of course everyone is bias about their day but honestly the day was perfect.

    More than happy to help…..

For our hair and make up we used Maxine Meah and Irma, they are based at the Santa Ponsa Golf Club and were brilliant. Lovely people and did exactly what we wanted. Highly recommended.

For music we had a DJ from Deejay Grup http://www.deejaysgrup.com/ and a saxophonist who played freestyle alongside him. They were both incredible!

We also used Judith Jurado from Mille Papillons http://www.millepapillons.com/ as our wedding planner, and she was fantastic. We weren’t going to use a wedding planner at all, but decided a month before we wanted someone to manage the day so we could enjoy it and she did a grand job. Her decoration is stunning, and she adds the finishing touches which just make the day. Without asking we had a sweet bar, and sparklers at the end of the evening. I could recommend more if I tried. She also managed all the music contact so she worked with Deejay Grup.

Any other questions ask away… I want to keep reliving it! X

That will be gorgeous, we're using Arts Festrum for our decor, they have EVERYTHING you could ever need in a big warehouse in Palma! we're getting married at Can Cuarassa in Puerto Pollensa so need a lot of lighting and decor and there isnt anything she cant get hold of! Toni Llobera was highly recommended to us for DJ he runns the deejays group, but he was booked for our date so we're using one of his associates - Nellsbells-who did you have from them? love the idea of the saxaphonist alongside did it work well? We're using a florist local to Pollensa so im not sure that would be much use to you and for photographer we're using Huma 06 whos wonderful xx

Im not sure who I had but he was good! I gave a really clear brief what i wanted music wise and they did that. And even when they started playing a few too many oldies they were quick to turn them off as soon as i said to! bridezilla!!! The saxophonist was amazing and for us the highlight of the day - he was just incredible... so many people have a band and we wanted something different which was exactly what we got. it created such an amazing atmosphere.

Oh i am so jealous of you all starting out in your planning for a Majorca wedding... if i could do it all over again i would!

Your wedding sounds like it was amazing Nellsbells. We looked at Son Brull (my dad was super keen) but they wanted us to take the whole hotel exclusively for 4 nights! Just too damn expensive!

Thanks for all the advice, just had a quick peek at Judith's site, looks amazing. And actually, I think you may be right about party planner, because whilst I didn't think we'd need one, having seen some of her pictures, the details are so beautiful and I'm not sure we'll be able to get the finishing touches without one. I'm going to get in touch with her asap!

How many guests did you have? Do you live in the UK?

Judith is amazing - she really is! Her english isnt great but she just got what we wanted and just adds a real personal touch… she works in Barcelona and Majorca and was booked up almost every Saturday for the whole summer... which speaks volumes! She works with her husband who is really nice and speaks better English. My dad thought he was a bit of a wedding pro, with him managing both my sisters wedding, however what i pointed out to him was that we were in Mallorca and although have visited their every summer our vocabulary doesnt extend past hola and gracias.. and also i wanted him to enjoy the day as much as everyone else. And that is exactly what Judith enabled him and us all to do. She was always there but never visible if you know what i mean. I seriously cant recommend her highly enough.

We had 70 in total, including us so a good turn out for a wedding abroad.

    Hi!

    Just a quickie.

I wondered if any of you had decorations such as fairy lights, lanterns etc and if so, did you use a specific company to come in and set it all up? I'm hoping to light the terraces with rows of fairy lights, and hang votives and lanterns from the trees in the gardens, but as yet, have only found one company who seem rather pricey!

Any help, as always would be hugely appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi,

How's the planning coming on? We've been looking at SB Mallorca too for lighting, decor etc. And have managed to track down a couple of really nice cake companies/ florists.

Have you booked an officiant for your wedding? We'll be getting married in the UK before the ceremony - and are looking for someone who can perform a humanist ceremony and vows.

Hiya we got our celebrant through Paul Betts, he works for Magic Med ( they have a Facebook page) but he also runs Majorca celebrants, what's SB mallorca? Not heard of them. Our venue told us that a traditional Majorcan wedding cake is actually parfait made into a cake and it gets sliced and eaten for dessert?!! Hope we've made the right decision!!! Where's your venue?
