Manchester Wedding

Rachyb, 19 of March of 2009 at 21:21 Posted on Planning 0 19

Hello everyone

We have recently booked our wedding in Manchester and I'm VERY excited! We are getting married at the Great John Street Hotel and just wondered if anyone has been to a wedding here and what it was like?

I would also love it if anyone has some recommendations for any wedding services in Manchester. Haven't booked anything other than the venue yet!

Thanks xx

Hey, I'm in Manchester. We looked at the Great John Street Hotel, it's beautiful, the only reason we decided against was it was just that little bit too small for us. Ended up going for ceremony and meal at the Town Hall, then evening do at Manchester Art Gallery.

Florist recommendation - Frog Flowers (google it), it's a guy called David and he's been brilliant, did amazing designs for us.

I have an appointment at the town hall to look around as well.

Not sure about a reception venue yet, want to do something that can be a bit relaxed, rather than a very formal venu. Anyone any ideas?

We don't live in Manchester, we are Wirral based but we stayed at GJS Hotel and just loved it. Your weding reception can be really informal there if you want, we are having a BBQ on the roof terrace.

Martin and Joanna, I can't get onto your website, I will keep trying, thanks for the link. I will have a look for frog flowers now

    Hi Rachyb,

Congratulations on setting your date - very exciting!?

I am a wedding photographer based in south Manchester so please feel free to take a look at my website - www.neilredfern.com - I personally haven't covered a wedding at the Great John Street Hotel but I have heard it is very nice so I'm sure you've made a great choice.

If you are looking for a wedding singer I would highly recommend Cindy Hoten. I am getting married in August and Cindy is singing at our wedding. You can view her Myspace page here: https://myspace.com/cindyhoten

For those getting married at Manchester Town Hall, it is an absolutely amazing venue! I covered a wedding there a fortnight ago (ceremony and reception), everything ran really smoothly and the couple had a great time. It is a really photogenic venue as well which is always good from the photographer's point of view? If you are interested you can view a slideshow of the wedding here: http://neilredfern.blogspot.com/2009/03/manchester-town-hall-wedding.html

    Hi Rachy

I'm a photographer and we covered a fantastic wedding at Great John St last year. It was an amazing venue and we got some ace shots around the streets of Manchester.

I'm happy to show you the piccys but I'm not sure if I can post a link straight up as I'm a newbie and I don't advertise with Hitched - I know there are rules!

Anyway if you'd like to see them let me know. I don't know if it's possible to PM me on here but if I'm allowed to post a link I will.

I got married in Altrincham last november and had outdoor caterers etc as we had the reception in PILs garden.

    i have lots of recomendations:

DJK photography for photos, Liz at stardust films for our video, the metropolitan in didsbury for the catering, james barlow (wedding singer) for the music, the black rose in hale/knutsford for flowers, lace bridal in hale for wedding dresses, mrs kitty for the stationery (web based) and last but not least lisaloulou for the jewellry. (sorry that turned into a bit of an N and P!!)

I`ve been to a wedding reception at the art gallery and it was fab, and we also looked at the belle epoque in knutsord which is really good too. I do like city centre weddings though. good luck, feel free to PM me for any more recs etc.

    Hi again Rachy

Here's a link to the highlights slideshow of the wedding we did at Great John St. You'll see they had a roof terrace reception too. It was such a fantastic atmosphere.

    http://www.philbarbergalleries.co.uk/darkroom/share/?n=helenwayne

If you'd like to see the full set of pictures, if you go to our website at www.philbarber.co.uk and contact us through that I can e-mail you the link and password. There are about 400 pictures in the full set!

Anyway, you have chosen a fantastic venue and you'll have an amazing wedding. We'd love to work there again (hint!!)

By the way, check out the Coronation Street pictures. As the set is just across the road from the hotel we managed to sweet talk the security guard into letting us on for 5 minutes. It was surreal to say the least!!
