Massively on a budget, need Herts venue ideas :(

rubberducky88, 1 June, 2012 at 20:48 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hi all,

I'm new to the website!! My partner and I got engaged in December and wedding planning was put on the backburner as I was expecting and gave birth to our little boy in April Smiley smile

Our wedding is going to have to be seriously on a budget due to low wages and saving for a mortgage...

I am getting married in my local church and DO NOT want a wedding breakfast at all, so literally looking for a venue to host a wedding reception from about 4/5pm onwards in Hertfordshire.

I am open to different/alternative ideas. Really I don't want to pay more than 2k considering it's just the reception, but I know this is a very low budget.

If we can't do it for cheap then it'll be yeeears before we can do it, I really want the same surname as my finace and son Smiley sad

Any ideas/help would be super!!!!! xxxx

I'm in Herts... where abouts is the church (assuming you don't want to have to travel too far!)

One thing to consider, if possible, is a wedding away from the weekend. This can give mahoosive savings on costs as venues discount to maintain flow of work. It does depend where you are, although many places do do fixed cost wedding...the Cheshunt Marriott for example does some good deals for those on tight budgets......as does many other Marriott hotels. Let us know where you arer and we can focus our suggestions to help you.?

Its in borehamwood, so ideally looking at the surrounding area - no where further than a 30min drive!

    Congratulations Smiley smile

As suggested village halls are your best bet. If you have it 'off season' and there are no other events on that day, chances are that if you are very nice and explain your plight they will be happy to let you have it for practically nothing.

Get guests to bring a couple of bottles of wine and perhaps (I know you didn't really want food) their signituture dish i.e a potato salad. You may stuggle not providing food unless theres a good kebab shop nearby?. Or have a fish ad chip van turn up, no one will mind paying a fiver for some fish and chips!

Best of luck with everything https://www.north-herts.gov.uk/index/community_and_living/community_centres_and_facilities/village_halls-2.htm

I am not that far from you! And don't worry, there are loads of ways to do things on a budget.

Venues - No idea on prices but these ones in Radlett might be worth a look to start with...

Shenley Cricket Centre (as previously mentioned) http://www.venueshire.co.uk/08/shenley-cricket-centre-wedding-venue/

    Aldenham War Memorial Hall http://www.venueshire.co.uk/08/aldenhem-war-memorial-hall-for-hire/

We saved a lot of money getting a venue that allowed outside caterers. Then booking the 2 separate.

    Hi,

I looked at Shenley Cricket Centre and it's lovely, plus you don't have to have a particular catering package.

The Met Police Bushey Social Club can also be hired for parties, it's near Costco.

I'm getting married at High Elms Manor, and you bring your own caterers here and it can hold up to 200.

The other place I looked at online which was reasonable and looked good but a bit further away was the Wadesmill Suite.

Not sure exactly what you want but the YMCA in central Watford can be hired out, as can the Irish Club near Bushey Arches.

I hope that helps. Good luck!
