Medical advice - Helicobacter Pylori

Lynseys Designs, 2 September, 2008 at 15:42 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 15

Hi

Has anyone ever been treated for Helicobacter Pylori? I have just had a positive blood test after suffering really bad stomach pains and heartburn symptoms for the last week and need to start a course of 3 meds. I've heard different stories on the side effects some of which aren't very pleasant but would be good to know if anyone on here has been through the treatment before?

Thanks

If you mean the side effects of the drugs then I can't help, but we work on campylobacter (its previous name before reclassification) here (but in livestock) so if your finding trouble finding info, try campylobacter rather than helicobacter in your googling.

    HTH!

My ex had treatment and no side effects for him either. All his stomach problems disappeared afterwards.

I might be getting different med's as I have a course of 7 days to take but glad to hear you didn't have side effects. I know everyone is different but I have heard some horror stories.

Are they not 2 different things - Helicobacter Pylori can cause stomach ulcers and campylobacter gives you food poisoning?

Do you know what the 3 meds are? My mum has had treatment for this a couple of years ago she had 2 different antibiotics and lansoprazole, for a week if I remember correctly, she didn't experience any side effects and is fine now.

They are Amoxicillin, Clarithromycin and Lonsoprazole. Maybe the doc was just telling me to expect the worst just in case! I think my friends wording was that the med flush it out your system which I'm sure you can guess what they meant and I didn't fancy being at work in that case.

Nick the amoxicillin is pretty big and so is the Clarithromycin!

I have 8 tablets to take each day for a week and then hopefully be cured.

    Thanks everyone

They thought I had that but the test came back negative but whilst they were waiting they gave me a 14 day course of lonzaprozal (or however you spell it) and I did have quite a nasty reaction to it but I'm just awkward!

Hope you are ok with it all and hope you get better soon.
