medieval theme - purple and gold *mood board flash*

kittypuss85, 4 January, 2012 at 21:20 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hello,

We decided on a medieval theme when we got engaged, but that was 3 years ago - now it comes to planning it, we have gone for purple and gold medieval.

Do you think this works, or does it need a 3rd colour?

thanks everyone

I think it works really well!

I can't imagine another colour that would work well with it to be honest, it seems like anything else would ruin it.

    Love the Medieval idea too!

Myself and my partner are crossing our fingers that we're booked for a medieval wedding one day, we love them. We're always talking about the idea ourselves actually.

Do flash some more, i'd be intrigued to see what you come up with as your planning progresses Smiley smile

    Thanks :-)

I have my heart set on a purple dress and wanted a decent colour to set off the theme. Having researched medieval gold came up a lot.

I have so many ideas its unreal, have booked entertainment of 2 people who are stilt walking, fire eating, fire breathing, fire dancing, juggling, magician jesters!! Who will be dressing up to the medieval theme. Also planning on having a hog roast type banquet. We are having a handfasting blessing as well as a legal ceremony.

The only thing that doesnt fit the theme is my transport - horse and carriage is WAY to expensive! But in it's place I am having the real car from the harry potter films - the flying ford anglia, not just a replica, but one of the ones they actually used. I'm such a Harry Potter fan that I dont even care it doesn't match the theme. :-)

Such a fun theme! We photographed a Medieval wedding a few years ago, the Bride had a purple gown made special for her by a costumer in Wales, who does gowns and costumes for the movie industry. They made the groom a suit of armor! It was amazing. All the guests were also suited out by the same costumer, but they rented theirs. As the photographers, we also went in costume,, it was one of the most fun weddings ever, lol. I love weddings where everyone really gets into the spirit of things Smiley smile They had the wedding in Portland Castle, so it really suited the event well. The groom's transport was an off duty firetruck, and the bride had a Beauford I think, the top was down for the drive thru Weymouth and she got alot of attention, lol.

As I remember it, the costumer also rented banners, and other props for the decorations.

Enjoy, it sounds like you have a great day planned Smiley smile

I love it! The purple looks wonderful. :-) I might be tempted to highlight it with a pale or apple green. Not exactly like this! But it's the first image I came across on google. I think the colours work really well together. But I do think the purple is lush.

And this is the site this image came from. I have no idea what they are like, I've literally googled purple & green and this image came up from here: http://www.rossetti.vispa.com/wmeveplain.html

(just one thing....I went to a wedding recently that had a hog roast & nothing for the vegetarians. Even the potatoes were cooked in goose fat so I had nothing except a dry bread roll.....and vodka. This is completely irrelevant to your colour scheme & you may not even have any veggies there but as I was reading I just thought I'd let you know in case.)

I was wondering about pale green, or possibly ivory - i will look into that further :-)

Also - yes we do have at least 4 vegetarians that I know of, so will make sure there is something for them to enjoy - thanks for reminding me!!!! So much stuff to do planning a wedding its things like this that slip through.

Fabulous :-) I'm excited for you! It's nice to have something fun. Obviously it's your choice I just think the green lifts it....if that makes sense.

Thanks for all your replies :-)

See, now this is exactly what I didn't want, to look like anything too asian, I think ivory or pale green is definately going to be an option.

I am getting married in a medieval castle, and although i'm not having a medieval theme as such, we wanted to stay with the keeping of the building so we are having aubergine, gold, pale green and ivory. The main colour is aubergine but just having a few subtle touches of the other colours to stop it looking to dark. It looks gorgeous together!

I had a mediaeval theme for my previous wedding and it was magical! We transformed a working barn (it had a horsebox and tractor in it two days beforehand!) into a mediaeval banqueting hall.

I still have the flame lamps (which run on electricity by the way so perfectly safe) and other pieces (like shields and banners) if you are interested.

Good luck with it - sure it will be fab.
