Meeting the photographer - where did you meet them?

Laura, 14 November, 2022 at 10:37 Posted on Planning 0 5
My venue has a few ‘regular’ photographers. One of them I love their style. I want to meet up with them before I book them. But they are a one hour drive away, they can’t do weekends & I can. I’m struggling in the week to do a two hour drive (there & back) due to work & school runs. Not sure if to suggest meet half way? My friend said her photographer came to her house. But I feel cheeky asking. Is it normal for photographers to come to your house for a meeting?

Or do I look at a photographer local to me? That I can easily meet up with?🤷🏼‍♀️

How about a Zoom / whatssapp call. Actually since covid I hardly ever meet with couples anymore, people just don't ask.

We have lots of correspondence and phone calls, I have an extensive gallery of 21 of Leicestershire and some Nottinghamshire wedding venues which gives people confidence along with a large bio page, I also have a page with 92 past reviews.

So I think that by the time people have gone through all of that then there is not much need for a face to face meeting which actually helps me keep my prices low.

Another thing is that most wedding photographers work from home and should not be having customers come around to see them as there possible insurance and planning issues / tax consequences in running a business from home that has customers visit.

Agree with Bill, we did ours all through Zoom and then had links etc. for gallery and reviews, we only met on the day!

We met ours face-to-face (pre Covid) at a hotel midway between us. That might be an alternative if you want a face to face meeting.

Thank you for the replies! I’m going to call them to arrange a zoom meeting. I read somewhere you should meet them face to face, as you’ll be spending a lot of time with them, so I feel I need to meet them. They seem lovely people over the phone though.

If it helps, I loathe Zoom (though I've had to get used to it, like everyone else!) but we met our photographer that way first and it was fine. We have since met her in person, and it felt almost exactly the same. Talking to them via video is a good first step to how they'll be in person I feel - phone is good for voice but as you can't see their expressions I struggle with it.

Good luck - I'm sure it'll all work out well for you Smiley smile
