Meeting with Vicar

Katie, 24 March, 2024 at 16:28 Posted on Planning 0 3

Hi,

My partner and I need to contact our local vicar to arrange a meeting with him as we would like to have our ceremony at the church in the village I grew up.

I am very nervous about contacting the vicar as I don't know the best time or day to ring him, I don't know what to say so if anyone has been through this that could give us some advice I would be so grateful.

Thank you in advance x

Church ministers are used to being contacted at all hours! But as the spouse of a church minister, I think it's lovely that you are being so considerate about the best time to contact him.

Sometimes, the parish magazine or church website lists the 'vicar's day off', and might even include the times when he is most likely to be in his office, but if you don't know when that is, then I'd just avoid calling on Sunday! Mid morning to late afternoon might be the best time to call, as it will miss morning prayers and evening services. As for what to say, all you need to do is to tell him that you are getting married and would like to be married in the church in your home village. Even if the church isn't one of those super-pretty ones that everyone wants to get married in, the vicar will still be used to getting plenty of calls about weddings, so should be able to give you all the info you need.

    Thank you so much !

I am slightly worried as the numbers off the parish website are his mobile and home number and I feel like I am intruding.
I will definitely ring between the times you have given, just fingers crossed it will all go to plan.

It's the same for just about every minister unless it's one of those enormous city centre churches with a full time secretary and office hours. Telephone number for our church is our home number, my OHs office is our dining room, his 'meeting room' is our lounge and I'm the closest thing he gets to an admin assistant Smiley laugh . Always makes me chuckle when callers ask if I'm his secretary.

If you're really worried, you could always send a text asking the best time to call, or otherwise just ring and ask if it's convenient to talk then or when to call back - honestly, he'll probably just be delighted that you've even thought about his convenience. Most people assume we are hovering over the phone 24/7, just waiting for them to call. Smiley atonished
