Memorable teacher names.

Braw Wee Chanter, 19 June, 2008 at 12:33 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 44

Following a post by Wonderstuff on WP, do you remember any teachers names that were amusing?

In primary school we had a:

Mrs. Boggin. I've never forgotten her, she was a thoroughly horrid woman.

Mr.Kerr, which is fine until we learned his first name was Joe.

Miss. Terry

At high school there was:

Miss. Hoare - P.E teacher, a really lovely woman who got totally unjustified stick.

Mr. Claudius (initial I) - Geography

And poor Mr.Stevens whose name isn't funny on it's own but he had the shakes (he was later diagnosed with Parkinsons and has since died) Hence his nickname Shakin Stevens. He was a really lovely, compassionate bloke, bless him.

At first school we had a supply teacher called Mrs Pratt.

There was also a plaque on the wall to the previous headmaster who was Mr Winterbottom. He was a regular visitor back to the school but insisted he was called Winterbotham. The staff used to call him "Seasonal Rear"

Can't believe my post has prompted this topic.

Anyway my primary school teacher was called Mr Tiddy - that sticks in my mind.

I remember students I've taught names for their strangeness much more (don't really want to post them in case I offend anyone thought).

It struck a chord because you've given thought to how you married name may impact on your working life. I often wondered why the teachers I remember didn't do the same. Although I'm not sure people should have to think about having a different name to save themselves some grief.

We had a Mr Wankling (maths teacher, girls' secondary). He was such an eccentric institution that he didn't actually get much in the way of jokes (not sure anyone would dare). Despite being hugely strict everyone loved him and he got a standing ovation when he left - never seen that before or since.

Mrs Moppet which was swiftly changed to Mrs Muppet but I always thought she was a lovely teacher.

My history teacher at school was (he's still there) Mr Raleigh (and yes, his first name is Walter).

When I was going around a school for an interview, I met the other teacher I would be working alongside. Her name was Mrs Snowball. She said she had to be slightly crazy to marry into that name, and I agree, she was!

When I was ten, I had a teacher called Miss Bott .. so lots of questions to her would begin "Miss Bott .. um ..." which is obviously hilarious when you're ten.

We had Mrs Batty, a mad old RE teacher at secondary school. And my geography teacher was called Miss Swan, but was possibly the ugliest woman you've ever seen. She could have played quasimodo with no make-up required.

We had a Mrs Batty too. She taught music and used to fast forward through the slightly risque parts of Grease.
