Mid November 2021 Wedding (slightly rushed but hopefully all Ok)

JLJ, 16 August, 2021 at 18:01 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hello All,

Never posted before but I was hoping to get some thoughts/ideas on this.

We got engaged in June and are trying to get married November. Slightly rushed I know but I think it can work. We can't get married in December as one of my fiancee's sibling will be unable to attend, my fiancee doesn't want to get married in January or February as she feels the weather will be a bit cold and bleak. This leaves March or November. March seems like a long time away and also so who knows what will happen with covid etc.

We've found a venue we both like and have paid the refundable deposit to secure it. There seems to be quite a lot of availability in November (I'm assuming most people are thinking about 2022 now) but we picked the first place we saw as we loved it (45 minutes drive into the countryside) and we are quite particular that it should be on a Saturday.

Wedding venue is catered and so that removes that decision (just need to chose the different options)

Dress and rings have been selected and will be ready in September.

Marriage appointment is set for 04/10 with local registry office (we live in North London but wedding is in Oxfordshire) and so 29 days after this would take us to 03/11 and so the wedding will be after this date. A bit of a worry if this appointment were delayed (by 10 days or more) or cancelled but no reason why it would be?

Wedding ceremony is booked and paid for. Slightly earlier in day (12:00) than planned but that's OK as we can enjoy the venue for longer.

Closest family members have all confirmed they can attend. Everyone else will have 10 weeks notice (assumed that they won't be on holiday in mid November and being on a Saturday means no need to book time off)

This leaves:

Sending invites (we'll go straight to invites with no need for RSVPs and meal choices can be done by e-mail to save time)

Flowers (narrowed it down to a few options)

Wedding cake (Have found a shop near our house that we like that can prepare with two weeks notice but haven't made a decision on them yet)

DJ (availability seems fine but a bit of a lottery how good they'll be)

Are there any key steps that we've missed? My main concern is that there is an issue with the registrar that causes a delay but we have 10 days leeway and there is no reason why this should happen.

Any tips on things that should be done in a particular order?

Thanks in advance!

All in one location. Ceremony is one room and then the reception is at the other end of the building.

Seems like you have it all covered. Very impressive so quickly. Do you have any best men or bridesmaids or similar to buy outfits for?

Yes, that's mostly taken care of.

It seems the registrar issue may mean we can't go ahead this year though. Too much of a gamble on not having that come through in time.

😢 Maybe you could have a chat with them and ask for their advice? I know they are saying they are extremely busy at the moment.

You mentioned the place was out in the country. Do you have any accommodation to book? Do you have something special already booked for your Wedding Night? And if so, how will you get there?

Is there no availability for an appointment before 04/10?

If they've booked you in provisionally, there shouldn't be a problem, but for your own peace of mind, I'd bring the appointment forward if possible. Also, 10 days leeway may not be enough if one of you were to have to self-isolate due to Covid!

Im currently trying to plan a wedding in November too! You're way further ahead than me, you seem to have it all covered mostly, anything else is a bonus!

Sound like you are very organised! If anything does delay the giving of your notice - could you just go ahead with the celebrations anyway and then have a registry office legal marriage later? I know it isn’t ideal but would stop you losing out on all you’ve paid for if there are any legal issues.

In the end we gave up on the idea of having the wedding in November as the risk was that we wouldn't have our notice of marriage in time. A small risk but we didn't want to chance it. We could still have had the party off course but didn't want all of the time and expense without actually getting married and so are now considering dates in Jan/Feb.
