I was sure there's been thread on this recently but either I made it up or I can't find it. I thought of one from when I was a young 'un. When I was about 6 years old I had Michael Jackson's Bad album on cassette that I used to listen to on my walkman. One day my mam had to ask which song I was...

I thought of one from when I was a young 'un.

When I was about 6 years old I had Michael Jackson's Bad album on cassette that I used to listen to on my walkman.

One day my mam had to ask which song I was singing along to as she'd never heard the lyrics 'Do you want a piece of gateaux?' before.

It was Dirty Diana.

Some of these are hilarious! I particularly like the first one - Last night I dreamt of some bagels.

I thought the lyrics of Everytime you go away was you take a piece of meat with you as well - for years! I'm always doing these. Basement Jaxx Romeo - I always used to sing 'you used to be my rodeo' to the chorus, until my sister collapsed in hysterical laughter when she heard me one day. I just assumed it was cowboy related!

The Kooks song someone else mentions here, for a ages I sung, I know she knows that I'm not from Alaska.

Sometimes it's a bit disappointing when you realise what the real lyrics are!

I had to explain to my sister the oter day that the David Guetta/Neyo son "work hard, play hard" the lyrics are not

"a husband's work is never through"

but "a hustler's work is never through"

she was really disappointed as she thought it was a "nice" song

The song 'Let Them Know It's Christmas' has the line - feed the world.

For many years I sang 'people woooooaaaaaahhhhhh'. Even when I hear it now I still think it's that!

My own are too numerous to repeat but small children's do make me laugh. At the 2/3 preschool age where they are around music a lot and want to listen to the same thing. All songs are called their first line of course. Imagine how frustrating it is to demand 'Berman Berman', 'Woofoo' or 'Fleegleman' and have your parents willfully misunderstand you? Bearing in mind these are always the opening line.

Sing while listening to Britany Spears' 'Hit me baby one more time ' (oh Berman Berman, how was i supposed to know)

'Woofoo' is the famous opening to Song 2 by Blur.

my personal bete noir ( took me days to work it out) was Fleegleman, AKA 'Free your mind' by En Vogue :-D
