Mixing Cultures

Rebecca, 18 July, 2022 at 20:35 Posted on Planning 0 7

Having a traditional English wedding but want to incorporate some Indian culture twists to include my fiancees' heritage. Any ideas how? Was thinking in terms of favours maybe?

Can you ask his family for suggestions? They would know what would be appropriate.

You could try including some traditional food or drink in the menu, although this would be easier if you have a buffet-style meal.

That's helpful...perhaps some special dishes for the evening buffet!

You could also ask his family if there are any decor or ceremonial elements they feel it would be appropriate to include in a Western ceremony. I wouldn't do it without asking them though, in case they feel it would be disrespectful or inappropriate. I have found with some of my friends that while they are quite laid back about mixing up cultural references, their parents and grandparents have set rules on what can and can't be done.

Hey Rebecca! I'm having a mixed culture wedding too. I'm from the Caribbean and my fiance is from Afghanistan. So to incorporate his culture i'll be doing an outfit change into his traditional clothing. I'll be doing two first dance's of which one will be Afghani music. And then i'll be playing Desi/Afghani music throughout the day as this is what my in law's will remember more than my mint favours. But if it's favours only you're going for you might want to buy little snacks/sweets that your partner's family love from their country and wrapping them up maybe? Hope this helped Smiley smile
