Hi.

My partners mum has bought this dress and Im not thrilled that it’s white as she is MOG and will be in majority photos and on top table. I know it has the flowers but wanted other peoples opinions? She said she is keeping it and that is that. mog outfit 1

Groom needs to be the one to talk to his Mum and explain this is a long standing convention and that he will not be happy if asks wearing white. Mum’s are much more likely to listen to their sons IMO!

There are so many posts on here about the MOG wanting to wear white or an outfit with white in it. I don't know why they don't know that it isn't the done thing!

I think you probably do need to ask the groom to explain it to her, lots of other brides have also had this problem, it needs nipping in the bud I am afraid!

It isn't as bad as some MOG dresses I have seen, personally I am wearing ivory so this wouldn't bother me. If it really is upsetting you that much them your FH needs to speak to his mum, for her to say she is wearing it and that is that is not reasonable. There are so many other colour options she could choose from, it feels like she is trying to wind you up so definitely need to say something! Good Luck x

Given the pattern I don’t think this would jump out as “white” per se, in person or in photos. If it’s something that really bothers you though as others have said, get your partner to have a word. There a lots of options out there and they’re not all expensive, if she thinks it’s going to upset her son she might be open to change. A lot of guest dresses have a white base with patterns for summer weddings though, so it’s possible others might be in something similar. But that might be less of a concern than MOG given photos etc as you say

Ughhhh MOG!! How do they not get this by now!!

I get the argument that a lot of dresses have a white base, but this is very white AND the absolute worst person to wear white is MOG because it traditionally means she disapproves of the wedding if she turns up in white so I think she's the most crucial person to avoid it for this reason.

As others have said, let your FH fight this battle. I'd also be tempted to put something on your wedding website like "We respectively ask that guests avoid wearing dresses that are white or predominantly white. Please reserve this for the bride as is tradition - we'd love to see you in any other colour on our special day!"

There is so much pattern on this dress, it doesn't really come across as 'white', more 'patterned'. If it's really going to wreck your day, then ask your OH to have a word with his mum - but as Nathalie says, since so many guest dresses have a white or cream background to the pattern, you'll probably find other guests turning up with a similar amount of white in their outfits.
