I'm just getting the try again later message repeatedly at the moment. But there is no one else in my section of the office just yet so I will perservere!
I got that for ages - again I'm on my own at work at the moment so nearly got RSI by hitting refresh! Eventually got through. They must have opened quite early - I've been trying since 8:30am.
Yeah I got in about 8:40 but I'm still getting the message.
I figured, sod it, go the whole hog and do a full moon - you?
I don't think I actually have any concept of how far 26 miles is though. I walked 25 K when I was 14, I think that's the furthest I've ever walked in one go. I think I might be mad.
Should I just keep hitting refresh over and over? I thought maybe they just put the closed page on and took it off every now and again to let more people in?
I'm doing the full moon - someone I go to the gym with did the full moon last year in 5hrs 34! Not that I'm aspiring to times like that at the moment but she's going to come out training with me.
I managed to get mine and my husbands registrations in before 9am. I've signed us up for the full moon, the next 72 hours are going to take forever! he he.
Milk and sugar, i'm in Kent too. Just outside Canterbury.
Tiger Style - I'm in Ashford so we could poss meet up beforehand? In fact, I figured one of my targets should be to actually walk to Canterbury one day.
Rosie - wow! I take it it must be worth doing if you keep going back?
This will be my 2nd Moonwalk if I get in. I did it this year and loved every minute (even the painful ones!)
Milk No Sugar to give you an idea of what you have signed up for its the eqivilent of walking from the brenly roundabout all the way down the A2 and half way along the Deal/Dover road! Are you walking with anyone?
Don't leave it too late to start your training and something people don't realise is the amount of time its takes up. Power walkers walk a mile in roughly 15 minutes, I was getting between 17 and 18 minutes so just to walk 1/2 of it would take about 4 hours at a good pace. You want to be able to walk at least 20 miles in training (in one hit) before the event.
I still have all the booklets etc sent out for this year and would be happy to scan and email the training plan, info etc for who ever may want it. Don't take it as gospel as things may change for next year but its a good heads up.
Its on a first come first served basis, I can imagine online registrations are more likely to get in. I applied by post last year and still got a place. The post applications aren't released until next week.
Thanks for the info Tiger Style, I'll try and PM you later so you have my email if that is ok? I'm not walking with anyone, hoping to get a few internet wierdies to walk with LOL
I walk about 3 miles a day most days, but not all in one go, and I can walk further if I'm out for a walk. But as soon as I get my confirmation email, my training starts!
I managed to get into the full moon this morning, but my SIL who i was doing it with didn't. I'm hoping she'll get in at the postal stage so i dont end up doing it alone!
I'm in Chelmsford, Essex if anyone is close by and wants to do a few training walks together?
For all those looking for training partners, have a look at the link above from the Walk the walk website.
Re the trainers, get some good supporting ones but don't spend the earth. Once you've done all your training and completed the walk they will be completely useless!
I'd also recommend getting some walking socks with no seams as they help prevent blisters, also vaseline round the toes helped me too.
MNS - It's sooo worth it! I'm actually a bit addicted now as I went with Walk The Walk to the Nijmegen Marches in Holland in July and we did four power walking marathons in four days! So watch out... ;-)
Definitely get to a good running shop and get fitting for proper trainers. Also, try some different socks - it's taken me a few years to find the right combo and trainers and socks to avoid blisters! Another thing that I can't live without is my bum-bag/water bottle holder. It's not the most attractive thing in the world but it works!
Get the miles in beforehand - you'll enjoy the night so much more if you're not worrying about the distance. Don't wait to get the training plan, just get out walking!
Rosie - do you have a copy of the training plan you could PM me?? I'll be bombarding you guys who've done it before with lots of questions over the next few months!!
Evelina - I can get to MK for the odd weekend walk if you would like??
Shiny - definitely go for it! Even if you don't fancy doing it or don't get in, I'm up for walking with you - drop me a PM if you like. Was going to start in earnest after the Christmas lardfest but will hopefully get out before then too?
