Music during drinks reception and wedding breakfast

KarenJane, 19 of May of 2013 at 16:44 Posted on Planning 0 16

Well, i think we're nearly there - most things sorted now thank goodness and just a few bits left to do.

We're having a great band for the evening reception and just having CD's played during the drinks reception and wedding breakfast. My question to you all on this sunny sunday afternoon is what sort of music to play?!

We have a wide range of age groups from 12 to 80 and it will just be back ground music.... should we be looking at love songs or classical or something a little more up beat?......

All suggestions greatly appreciated!

Thank you x

    Hi,

We have a band playing in the evening too Smiley smile we had our final meeting last weekend with our venue and they said about music to be played after the breakfast and before the band starts. We are thinking things along the line, of adele, emile sande, Michael buble, (excuse the speeling of names) love songs, and just chill song from over the last 30 years xx

In the evening we just gave the DJ free reign after telling him we wanted 80s, 90s dance, plus modern R+B, he did some great mash ups! This is what we chose from our pianist's repertoire for our afternoon tea wedding breakfast:

All You Need Is Love – Beatles

    At Last – Etta James

Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You

Close To You – The Carpenters

    Firework – Katy Perry

    Get Here – Oleta Adams

    Greatest Day – Take That

    Hello - Lionel Richie

Here Comes the Sun – George Harrison

    Hey Jude - Beatles

How Deep Is Your Love - Bee Gees

I Say A Little Prayer for You

Nobody Does It Better – Carly Simon

Right Here Waiting – Richard Marx

River Flows in You - Yiruma

    S.O.S – Abba

So Happy Together – The Turtles

    Sway – Michael Buble

    That’s Amore – Dean Martin

    The Look of Love

This Years Love – David Gray

We’ve Only Just Begun – The Carpenters

What a Difference a Day Makes

    What the World Needs Now

    When I Fall In Love

    Wonderful World – Eric Clapton

    Your Song – Elton John

Either hubby or I had a particular reason for each one and also we knew that our guests would like those tunes too.

We are thinking of having 1930's/40's music such as Glenn Miller, the Andrews Sisters etc as we're having afternoon tea. If we were having a traditional wedding breakfast I would probably go for classical or piano music for something elegant in the background.

Drinks reception will be a mixture of old and new music - the turtles, the Beatles, emeli Sande etc.

Wedding breakfast will be Motown and soul. But it depends on your personalities and the type of wedding breakfast you're having. What kind of music do you and your OH like?

We had a band playing 30s and 40s music for the evening do.

But for good, relaxed music that doesn't intrude and that is appreciated by most, I go for "Great American Songbook". The Rat pack, Bing, Fred Estaire etc. The sort of thing that Michael Buble covers.

Our venue has a sound system that you can plug an ipod into, so we've got two playlists. The first is for playing during the drinks reception and consists of two compilation albums of swing music (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, that sort of thing). Then about 8 hours worth of dance music for afters. I'm entrusting the ipod to my brother to make sure he gets the playlists in the right order.

There are loads of programs on the interwibble that enable you to manipulate a track. I use Magix musicmaker. I can slow it down, speed it up, chop bits out, repeat certain passages, in fact do anything.....then save it again as an mp3 and voila!
