What about me??? I was so excited about having 'highlighter pen pink' as my wedding colour, would have been so classy and tasteful, and now I feel like that idea is ruined...
I thought I might want some personalised 'getting ready' stuff for my bm's but after last night that's been chucked off my list! Think I'm going to get them something from Plum Pretty instead.
On a serious note, it has made me a little wobbly over my dress.......my dress ISNT a gypsy styleee monstrosity but it is very pale pink and has a full skirt, and just made me think that i wont be able to put any jewellery, hair pieces, tiaras, etc without it looking liek a gypo dress ?
Apparently all the episodes so far have featured travelers of Irish origin. Coming up are some programmes featuring Romany travelers. A guy was on tv yesterday explaining that there are cultural differences between the two groups regarding weddings.
Thelma Madine is making my wedding dress and I'm praying to God that she hasn't left a picture of it lying around in the shop in case some gypsy wants an OTT version of it making ☹️
OHHHHHH I have goss and I cant hold it in any longer, one of my clients has a friend whos a dress maker and she has been asked 2 take over in the dressmaking as they are sick of thelma talking with great knowledge bout their lifestyle and also flashing her custom made range rover on telly, thus showing how much she makes from them, ahhhhhh thats better!!!
I doubt she will ever stop making gypsy dresses though, the girls I have met in the shop really adore her and I doubt channel 4 would make them change their mind. When I paid the deposit for my dress, there were 8 seperate brides ordering dresses ?
I don't like how the programme leads everyone to believe that she is the only gypsy dress maker. She says herself that before the programme she made more traditional dresses and there are actually 2 other gypsy dress specialists on merseyside who charge more and are harder to get an appointment with!
She doesnt care about the brides she fits the dresses with- she nos they will hurt them and cut them- but she gets paid a lot so she doesnt care. any good dressmaker or person in general wouldnt do that
I disagree Sammy- she is a very good dress maker, but she knows that that is what they want and if she won't do it the brides will go elsewhere. As I said earlier, there are at least 2 other gypsy specialists in Merseyside. If someone was paying me £10,000 plus for a few weeks work, I'd do it too!
Mrsmcgorm2be- The girl who you regularly see with her in the shop and at weddings isn't her daughter, but she does have a daughter who works in the shop. Her daughter specialises in the communion dresses and baby wear.
Well im very intrigued by Thelma and Nico... I was considering having a gander in her shop to see if there was anything I liked and to get the scoop!!
I do think she talks the talk though without having too much knowledge of the lifestyle! I would be interested to hear from any gypsy brides who don't ham it up for T.V.!
I've been to two traveller weddings and they were very like the ones on TV. Possibly slightly less OTT...nah, they really were just like that!
Have to admit, I was utterly horrified at the first one I went to by all sorts of things - the age of the bride and groom, the bling, the dress, the 15 bridesmaids, the seeming lack of respect for church customs and practices...
Wow! Must've been an experience... I can't imagine my local priest would've allowed a traveller wedding with all the naked flesh and lack of respect but times are desperate for the catholic church I suppose! ha!
We have several settlements near our village and they keep themselves very much to themselves. I think I only see them when trotting their horses and carts(?)/traps(?) round the roads. And they come up against planning laws fairly frequently.
And of course, at the occassional big fat wedding!
