My dress doesn't fit - not about weight loss!

KTtobe2014, 8 of March of 2014 at 20:10 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

Hi

I don't know if anyone will actually have any words of wisdom for me but I'm desperate for some advice/comfort.

I went to my first dress fitting today - it took me 4 months so find this dress (13 shops, some of them twice!) and I finally found this one which I love but have had concerns about from the start. As a bigger girl, none of the dresses I tried on actually fit so there was always an element of imagination involved and that was the case with this dress too.

I've managed to lose almost 2 and a half stone so the dress fits really nicely but my bust (36J) is spilling out. The dress doesn't have as much boning as I had originally wanted but the shop kept insisting that when I had "my" dress in the right size, it would be fine. I'm now faced with a really deep cleavage (might not sound bad but I've spent all afternoon crying).

The seamstress talked about pulling the top in to support me but that just made my boobs double up at the top. So, I don't need to lose weight off my bust, the dress needs bigger cups Smiley sad

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? And PLEASE don't tell me how lucky I am to have this problem. If you have small boobs, you can add to them but you can't take away from big boobs without a lot of money.

    Hello,

I completely understand your frustration as I'm a 34JJ and was really worried about dress shopping. I know that strapless bras are out of the question for our size however I looked into getting a corset I'll see if I can find the website I'd been looking at but it'll depend on the style of your dress.

Can you get a seamstress to put more bones into the dress for support? x x

As a big busted girl I sympathise! It's obviously the dress of your dreams so don't forget that- it can work! Can the seamstress replace the boning (normally plastic unless real couture) with metal boning? We have had this done (I work in the industry) for a girl who was breastfeeding, when prior to feed her bust was too heavy for the original corsetry. Definitely mention it to them!

could they remove the cups altogether and they sew a bra in for you? Cups don't have under bust support so they are often padded to make up for it, boosting your boobs up slightly (except on your cleavage, significantly.) a bra would give you support with unnecessary lift.

Could they create an illusion neckline over the cleavage if not? Strategic lace scalloping (works wonders!), an organza layer (not obvious but does the trick), or similar?

    Hope this helps! Good luck!

I'm so sorry you're so upset. The seamstress should be able to adjust the bodice so it fits your boobs. She might need to add more boning and structure but she needs to be honest and say if it's within her capability as it sounds quite specialist to ensure your boobs are properly supported rather than pushed around where they don't belong. You need to talk to the shop again and let them know how you feel. Xxx

Thank you all for your kind words and suggestions, I will certainly take these with me to the next fitting. I spoke to the shop today and they tried to assure me that their seamstress is fully capable and reliable. She then spoke to the seamstress and called me back saying the seamstress didn't think there was a problem!!!! So, the shop owner is going to come to my next fitting and we will go from there. Unfortunately it's just under 4 weeks before my wedding day so if they can't fix it.... It doesn't bear thinking about!

The shop said to bring a minimising bra with me but I can't find one above a G cup and even if I did, my dress is having tulle straps added so bra straps under those would look fairly hideous. I can only pray that the traumas I'm going through are going to help me in the long run.

Ill let you know how I get on! Thanks ladies xx
