My fiancé is a Viking! (flashy flashy)

MrsCase2013, 4 February, 2011 at 15:09 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hi all,

This may sound bizzarre, well scratch that, it is bizarre. My fiancé is a Viking. Regardé:

That's him on the far left, with his hair billowing!!

Get your thinking caps on hitchers, this is a hard one! I thought it would be nice to incorporate his hobby into our wedding. So far I've thought:

- We could cut the cake with one of his re-enacment swords, he has a pretty jewelled one. Well, if a sword can be called pretty!

- When we get our cake topper made, I was thinking the groom figure could have a Viking helmet on. Not one like he's wearing, as it'd cover his face.

- Would like some way on incorporating the 'rune' language, as he has a tattoo on his chest that says 'David loves Katie', and it's quite pretty:

- Was thinking of having table names as norse gods and goddesses, with what they were the god/goddess of underneath... Here's a mockup I've done to show you all what I mean:

I am quite smug as it's only took me this afternoon to come up with this and can't wait to show the OH when he gets home!

Please help, I think he'll be more interested in the planning if it's a bit Viking-y...

Honest opinions appriciated! It won't be all Viking-y I just want small little touches.

How about having your centre pieces in some kind of long-boat shaped container?

Sorry for the overuse of exclamation marks, can you tell I'm excited?

Ooh I'm loving the mead idea. I was considering a hog roast, but I don't think it'd be practical as we'll have large numbers in the evening!

And long boats sound brill too, we could put our flowers in them... *scurries to Google* Smiley laugh

Can you use the viking language alongside the english language for things like the invitations, place names, etc. Maybe not all of them but you could have a continuing text in both?

I worked for 3 months in a restaurant in the far north of Scotland and we did a pudding called a viking long boat. It was made in a banana split dish with lots of ice cream and fruit and then it had matchmakers sticking out of each side to look like oars. Not sure if that's the sophisticated look you want for your wedding though!

I like the idea of putting the runes on the place cards, I think people would like to see what their name looks like. We could have their 'english name' in big scrolly writing and just a little rune name on the bottom?
