My front tooth veneer has just come off

Maxi, 12 April, 2009 at 10:57 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

I look horrible ?

And on a bloody bank holiday too, that means i'm going to have to go into work looking like this.

My dentist is very difficult to get an appointment with (NHS).

Do you think a private dentist will take me?

    Aww what rotten luck.?

There is usually an emergency dentist on, as they have with doctors.

Might be worth getting in touch with the out of hours doctors see if they can put you in touch.?

    Thanks.

I wouldn't imagine the emergency dentist will entertain me, tbh. I'm not in pain so not an emergency. Purely cosmetic.

I'll just have to keep my mouth shut for the rest of the weekend!

Will an NHS dentist do cosmetic work? I even had to beg my private dentist to straighten my teeth! Was too scared for veneers though. Hope you can get it sorted soon.

My dentist has re-glued another of my veneers on before for me free of charge, but that was after it had only been on for a week or so. I have 4 veneers, 2 of which the cost was partly met by NHS, the another 2 I had to pay full cost myself as they were deemed purely cosmetic.

I don't mind paying, it's getting an appointment with my NHS dentist that will likely by the problem.

I'll just have to try my own dentist on Tuesday, to see if I can get an appointment this side of summer. If not, i'll have to start ringing round all the private dentists in the hope that they'll see me.

We're away to brave B&Q soon - hope I don't bump into anyone I know, eek!

I didn't mean for you to feel you had to justify them, sorry. I meant I didn't know if they did that kind of work at all.

Give them a call; they may have an emergency number on the answerphone or something.

Try the NHS helpline, your dentist should have an emergency number on the answer phone. If not a private Dentist should be abe to see you within a day or 2. We try for the same day, but may be the day after if it's busy after bank holiday weekend

It didn't feel I had to justify, Doughnut. Was just giving more info.

I can't phone the emergency number, as no way will this be treated as an emergency. It's a disaster in my book but not to the medical profession. I'll just have to erm, grin and bare it ?

Could you glue it back on for the time being? Boots do a Dental First Aid kit - there might be something suitable in there to tide you over til you can see your dentist.

No useful advice here but just wanted to say - yuk, how awful for you!

I have six veneers and have nightmares about them falling off. I well remember when I was getting them fitted, I had to spend a week in temporary veneers while they made the final set and every single one of them fell off within 3 days. I refused to leave the house ? You're very brave for going to B&Q!

    Hope you get it sorted,

Thanks for the link. I've seen these kits before but am to scared to use them in case I damage the veneer, or worse, it pops off again when i'm eating and I swallow it!

I've braved B&Q and bought some lovely new bedding plants to cheer me up.

It's going to work looking like this that i'm not looking forward to. I'm so vain.

PUP - I also have nightmares about mine falling out. It's horrible isn't it? I wake up in a panic and have to run my tongue over my teeth to check they're all still there.
