My neighbour cut down my phone wire.

Whilst trimming a tree, its not a big deal as we arent with BT at the moment, but was wondering the cost (if any?) to put it back, before I go over there, I am really pissed off though the he hasnt even come over to appologise, I assume he would have noticed a big black wire fall out of both sides of his tree?

Do you not have a landline then?

I don't thik anyone could answer how much it would cost other than someone who worked at BT

Go over and ask him to sort it out

From memory, we were told by BT (albeit a couple of years ago now) when we had a crackly line an engineer visit would cost £70 if the fault wasn't a BT one (i.e. if our phones were at fault) - not sure if this would be the same for actually having cut through the line though

There's definately a cost from BT for this, my BIL had something similar last year but I can't remember the amount charged.

Hi - the same thing happened to us a couple of years ago and I called BT and they just came and fixed it as the wire was actually cut near to the telegraph pole itself so the operator I spoke to said as it was outside the home it was their responsibility to fix. Our neighbour is a farmer and was cutting the hedge - he never came to tell us either but is a bit of an unpleasant character so never expected better of him to be honest.

There was no charge to us but I did explain who was cutting the hedge so whether the nasty neighbour ended up with a bill who knows!

Hi i work for bt's fault department.

you report this fault to whoever you pay your telephone bill to, alternatively you can report it as an external job with bt but only if your phone line DOES work because the engineers will only fix the cable outside but not make sure your has it dial tone back for example.

if you had been with bt their charges for accidental damage is as follows... £116.33 for the call out (£99 ex VAT) and £99.88 includes vat per hour or part hour for any wiring work. this is for any accidental damage with the main socket box or if the fault is found with any wiring inside the property for the extentions.these charges would be charges to you if the fault is reported under your telephone number and would would advised you to get the person who damaged it to pay or if it was damp in your house or something you can claim off house insurance.

bt dont have their own engineer's anymore as all the telephone service providers have been told to use OPENREACH by OFCOM although bt do have a partnership with them so they are known as BT OPENREACH but people think their just bt engineer's ...ifswim

all external cables and poles may have been fitted by bt if their older but now they are fitted by openreach so are the responsibility of them and the service provider you are with so you report it to your telephone provider.

(dont flame me for the charges I only work there lol)

Thanks all ? H went around there last night when he got home, and neighbour answered the door with "yes, I know. It will be dealt with."

So we are leaving it up to him for the min. Yes we do have a landline but we are with Virgin, but obviously want it sorted in case we ever want to change.
