Name change - who needs to know?

Mrs-Riley, 28 of July of 2016 at 15:58 Posted on Planning 0 8

So, I've had my electoral roll thingy through today and it's spurred me on to make a list of who I need to notify that my name has changed - so far I have the following;

- Electoral Roll (requesting change of name form after wedding)

- Council tax

- Electricity Company (no gas)

- Phone Bill

- Water Company

- Bank (helpfully, my card expires in the same month!)

- Credit Card

- Sky

- Not going to notify on passport until after the honeymoon, as it's booked under my maidenname

- Not going to bother with my provisional license, as I only use it for ID

- Work

Am I being dense and forgotten anyone big?

Your post just reminded me I've not made a list yet!

Got doctor, optician, hospital, all online stuff (email, ebay, paypal, Amazon etc), tax office (self employed), benefits & maintenance etc connected to the children, kids school, my running clubs, railcard...

So many things when you think about it, but can't think of any more main ones than you have already

If you are changing your bank, you may have to look into any direct debits that take payment from your card as you will have a new card number.

Any insurance/car, house & contents, life. Will if you have one. ISA or a SIPP of any kind. Mortgage company or your landlord. If you can be bothered any online accounts you have, National Lottery, Amazon, etc.

I'm still ringing people now so don't worry too much.

All my direct debits use my account, not card details, so it's fine on that count.

No insurance to my name just yet *tempting fate*. Will change my ISA at the same time as my bank account.

Good shout about landlord - will get that on my list.

Not sure I can be arsed going through all my online accounts - will change FB, but think I'll change the rest as and when I need them.

Might have to change PayPal though.

OMG, I hadn't even thought of half of these!!

My friend tends to keep a copy of her marriage certificate in her passport. She's been caught out a few times when she's ordered things online and forgotten to change it to her married name, then had trouble when she goes to collect it in store as her ID is no longer in her maiden name.

Work! I only changed my title from Miss to Mrs and they still needed me to bring in a copy of my marriage certificate to do it.

Oh pants, I hadn't even thought about picking things up and having to show my provisional (which I use as ID).

Looks like I'll have to change that after all!
