Need reassurance

kentgirl2020, 5 October, 2020 at 16:37 Posted on Planning 0 12

So,

Wedding still moving forward with 8 guests in a registry office. Well I say registry office and it sounds dire, but the registry office we've chosen is beautiful lol.

Anyway, we're going out for dinner afterwards, to a super nice restaurant in Soho, but I need some reassurance that I'm not going to look like a total fecking numpty in my wedding dress?

I didn't even think about it until 2 of the guests coming asked if I'd told the restaurant I'm going to be in my dress? Like why the restaurant needs to know I have no idea!!! But they've given me real bad anxiety about it now.

    Hi!

I'm also having a super small wedding in December 2021- like you, nice registry office and then restaurant. I was also worried about looking 'too much' but everyone I've spoken to have assured that it's a special day and to wear what I want to.
I still worry about feeling self conscious but have definitely come around to the idea of a beautiful wedding dress. I think I'd regret it if I didn't. And also, the restaurant DO NOT need to know in advance, it's no-one's business.
I think you'll have an awesome day. The adrenaline of marrying your other half will take over and you'll have a ball! Congrats and enjoy!

Why on earth would you need to tell the restaurant?!!! I think most people would probably EXPECT a bride to turn up in a wedding dress, not need to be warned that you might!!!

It sounds as if your friends are very fussy/anxiety prone. I'd just ignore them.

If you have an enormous ballgown or an incredibly long train, then I might tell the restaurant in advance, just to make sure that there will be enough space for you to fit through to get to your table. But otherwise, they don't even need to know unless you tell them (although it might be worth mentioning, in case you get something extra thrown in!)

Yes, you might get a few looks from other guests, but it's going to be because people are happy to see a wedding taking place. I know when we got married, we were amazed at how happy total strangers were about our wedding - I think everyone is so ground down by the months of unending Covid worry, that a good news story acts as a kind of tonic for them! We've even had people in call centres tell us that we've made their day when we ring up to give them the name change!!!

I assume if you are having 8 people, the restaurant are aware it is a wedding reception, otherwise it would not be allowed. I would say they would be surprised if you WEREN’T wearing your wedding dress!

Oh sorry, maybe the wedding guests aren’t coming to the meal and it is just the two of you, or you and four of the guests? In which case the restaurant do not need to know at all, but I would give them a heads up it is a wedding, as they might want to make it extra special for you, as the previous poster said! I would not specifically mention the dress though.

This is what I thought? I ended up mentioning it when I spoke to the restaurant the other day and she said she is so excited to welcome us, and that its lovely we're coming dressed up etc.

I do have a train BUT have a hook so it will be hooked up after the photos etc. Will probably take my veil off as that I think is a little OTT for the dinner Smiley xd

Gah I hope no one takes random photos of us walking through covent garden!

They are ... hopefully ... selfish family dramas at the moment Smiley ups

We have to be split up into two familys to cater to social distancing anyway which is a bit naff but c'est la vie!

Don't worry if they do take photos - it will only be because they are happy and excited to see a wedding!

I would say you don't need to tell the restaurant, but I personally would just so that they can make it extra special for you! Most restaurants - especially upmarket - will want to make it the best celebration they can for you, so there wouldn't be any harm in mentioning it. Who knows, an extra bottle of bubbly may be waiting for you on arrival Smiley winking Smiley laugh

Yes definitely what Holly said. But also do tell them all about your dress because it may influence them where they seat you so that its easy for you to get in and out of your seating area in your dress.

Given how hard things have been recently, if I were another guest in that restaurant, I would be absolutely thrilled to see you there - reassurance that life and joy continues
