New home hamper ***Flash***

Nicola_84uk, 4 October, 2012 at 10:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 20

My BM is getting the keys to her new house today and is mega excited! She is moving out of her mum's and in with her boyfriend. I was going to get the usual champagne/chocolates but when I was speaking to her last night she said she had already recieved 5 bottles.

In the past I have made baskets/hampers for baby showers, birthdays etc and they have always gone down really well. I would like to put something together for her and was wondering what essentials she might appreciate. Any ideas??

**********Flash**********

Saw the xmas hamper thread and it inspired me to flash! She loved it ?

    This is a lovely idea!

I love cinnamonfairy's ideas, what about a pair of mugs or His & Her hand towels.

Like the others have said, some His & Her stuff! You could buy a pink toothbrush and a blue one, a blue handtowel & a pink one, his & her mugs, egg cups, the list is endless....

How about some practical/comedy gifts too? Loo roll, air freshener etc (after all she will be living with a boy!)

Cances are she'll receive lots of photo frames / candles etc. I know it's not cute or glam but how about a hamper of useful things?!

    Off top of my head:

    Cellotape
    Scissors
    Picture hooks
Screwdriver/Hammer etc. (if she or BF doesn't already have a toolbox if they've been living with parents)
    Batteries
    Lightbulbs
    First Aid Kit
Shoe Polish/Brushes (I'm aware I may be the only person who polishes their shoes though!)
    Trouser hemming tape (I'm short!)
    Binbags
    Dusters

You can put it all in a useful box to make the hamper or you can get quite cool retro pails/organiser things.

Or if you don't want to go down that route and she likes to cook - how about a planted herb window box thing or a really nice posh keyring (you can get the likes of Radley gift boxed ones - TK Maxx sometimes have them!)

    Right, I have just moved!

Loo roll, hand soap x 2 (for kitchen and bathroom). Bottle of bleach, hand towel. Some cleaning wipes or spray. These were all really useful when moving in somewhere new!

    Perishables:

Milk (get Cravendale or similar so it lasts a bit longer), some fruit, some frozen dinners (either shop-bought or for extra points, home-made).

I did this for a friend and i put together a box of stuff:

Loo roll, kitchen roll, duster, pledge, kitchen surface cleaner, bathroom cleaner, cleaning cloths, bleech, air freshner, washing up liquid, shower gel, small jar of coffe & tea & tea towels.

I went to Morrisons and each item was either £1 or under. She really appreciated it.

I like the idea of a hamper of useful things.

Can't add much more to what Saisi & ATB suggested but maybe also a cake/some cupcakes?

    Goes without saying!!!

I've also as a housewarming gift bought someone a biscuit barrel filled with biscuits as a gift - and re-useable too!

Wow, you're a really thoughtful friend. I just got mine a card. I agree with putting in a few useful things like kitchen/toilet roll. I'd probably steer clear of "stuff" that they might not have room for/want in their new house so I'd stick with new house essentials and perishables.

Thanks guys - Some really great ideas ?

I think i'm gonna go with some of the more useful things you suggested as appose to the traditional housewarming stuff. I think the comedy value and the practicality has won me over!!

Especially loving the Loo Roll, Mugs, Toothbrush, Cleaning products. I might chuck in some tea, coffee and biscuits aswell.

Thanks again and I might give you a flash of the final product if I can be bothered hehe!

I was going to suggest the same as Mrs C, practical but comical. his and Hers stuff might not go down to well with the boy!

When my friend moved into her fist house, i bought her a bathroom sign that said 'the poo room' I haven't seen it hanging up yet :-(
