Newbie and Glasgow Wedding!

Glasgowbride, 17 February, 2009 at 14:26 Posted on Planning 0 23

Hi everyone,

Im new to the board and really interested in reading about everyone's weddings! We got engaged at Christmas 2008 and are getting married in January 2010 in Glasgow - I would be really interested in any recommendations anybody could make for wedding suppliers in Glasgow, we have found a venue but not photographer, flowers, cake or anything else!

In particular, if anybody had recommendations for a photgrapher in the Glasgow area, I would really appreciate it - I have looked at loads of website but we are aiming to speand less than £1000 so it's hard to find one we like! Any advice greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Glasgowbride

    Hi Glasgowbride - congratulations!!!!

The photographer was one of the hardest things I had to find - I had a budget like yours and fell in love with lots of people who were £1000 +

I am in Edinburgh and found a great photographer who I believe will travel - www.scottishweddingphotographs.com - we bought the package for £950 and were delighted with our results. He's away until Feb 23rd at the moment overseas so if you enquire and don't hear back don't fret!

Hope that helps - I'm sure you will find lots of other recommendations from other B2B's and old marrieds on here!

    Hi Glasgowbride,

I'm from Lanarkshire and get married in 3 months so have heaps of suppliers I can give you.

Cake - www.onefinedayweddingservices.co.uk. They not only do cakes but stationery, jewellery and tiaras, shoes and bridesmaid dresses. The owner Claire is lovely and really will make you feel like an individual customer unlike a lot of wedding shops I went in to.

Dress - Capri Skies in Bath Street www.capriskies.co.uk

Photographer - www.jbdavies.co.uk. Definitely within your price range and a lovely guy as well. He is my bm's brother and his work speaks for itself and he will taylor his packages to suit.

Flowers are from a Lanarkshire florist but she would deliver outwith https://allisonsflowers.co.uk/

    DVD http://www.avenphotography.co.uk/.

If you want to ask me anything feel free to email and I'll help where I can - ******@**************.**.**.

    Hope that helps

    Lynsey x

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your engagement?

    Where are you getting married?

For a photographer, I can highly recomment Cameron Erroch www.erroch.com - I have seen him in action at several weddings and we have booked him for our 2010 wedding! His photography and dvd package is under £1000

Hiya, another Glasgow bride here! Whereabouts are you getting married? I got my dress from Roberta Buchan www.robertabuchan.co.uk

My florist is called Every Bloomin Thing, they are based in Cathcart Rd - don't have a website address for them.

We booked our car through Waterside Weddings www.watersideweddings.com

Happy to help with anything else if I can!

    Hi and welcome! ?

    I'm also a Glasgow bride!

I don't have any recommendations for photographers around your budget but you can definitely find a great one. I spoke with Jim (the guy that PurrfectGems recommended) and he is very nice and I'm sure would be able to help you!

    Hi!

Congrats on your engagement and welcome to hitched.

Im over in Fife, but our photographer is actually based in Glasgow, his name is John McDermott -

    http://youkeepeveryphoto.co.uk/root/kiltedphotographer/iphoto/main2.cfm

Thats the link to his page if you want another one to compare. We went to meet John at his home in December to have a look at some of his work and he was soooo nice.He spent loads of time with us and he was genuinely a really nice, down to earth guy.

You get all the pictures on a disk that you can then print yourself if you want, but he also does loads of albums too so you have the choice.

Good luck with the planning, looks like you've got loads of recs from the lovely hitched ladies already xx

    Hi,

    Welcome to Hitched. ?

I got my dress from Roberta Buchanan, bridesmaid dresses from Berketex Brides - no problems with either.

    Would recommend:

    Videographer: ebee

Photographer: www.ianarthur.com although not sure of prices.

Jewellery/Tiara etc: www.corrinesmith.co.uk - she won the wow award last year so is very good.

Stationery: I am allowed to say myself? www.pinksunday.co.uk - I can also design something just for you. I would also recommend www.prettywild.co.uk her designs are gorgeous.

    Happy planning

    Hi Glasgowbride,

Welcome to the site and congratulations. I am new to the site too. I have been engaged now for 4 years and I am getting married on 21st June this year at the Moorpark House Hotel in Kilbirnie. I have got most things organised so if you need any help just ask.

p.s. There is a great shop in Kinning Park called Flower Scene, I got all my vases, candles and stones and pebbles for my table centres in there for dirt cheap. I am just getting my florist to put my cala lillies in them so it has saved me a fortune.

    Hi Glasgow bride - congratulations!

Did you go to the Braehead Arena wedding fayre perchance a couple of weeks ago? Lots of local suppliers there .... or I guess the SECC fayre (or has that happened now!?!!) There are a few Scottish brides on here now, and you've got a few recommended suppliers on this post already, so hopefully it'll help!

(thanks Beth for the recommendation btw!)

Wow, thanks so much for all the help I have got loads of leads to look into now - the photographer and the flowers are my main concern because I know nothing about either and don't even know what I want! I really like the 'reportage' style of photography but a lot of the companies that take really good photos in that style are really expensive. Flowers-wise, I like the kind of heathery/thistley type of arrangements (can you tell i know nothing about flowers!) and because we are getting married in january I don't want anything too summery. Has anybody had this kind of arrangement?

Oh, for those who asked - we are getting married at one devonshire gardens in Glasgow - it's just going to be a small wedding with about 40 people but I cant wait!

Thanks again for all the responses, I am off now to check out a few websites!! Please keep them coming and for those who are already married let me know if you would recommend your photographer.

PS. I don't know if I should say this, but over on the you and your wedding board somebody (I think they were a professional photographer themselves but they weren't recommending their own compnay or anything) was saying that you should steer well clear of the kilted photographer (the one who says you keep every photo) because you would be very dissapointed. I liked his website and was quite keen but this really put me off. Not sure if they just had a bad experience though....

    Hey,

Just wanted to say welcome GlasgowBride!!!!!

I'm an Ayrshire Bride so probably won't be that much use to you for local suppliers.

I would, however, recommend Flowerscene in Seaward Street, Glasgow for candles, mirrored plates, flowers, baskets etc. You could spend a day in there!!!!

    Hello Ebee,

I'd like to find out more about your videography, but I can't send you a message because the board settings have limited message contact to friends only. Could you add me as a friend so I can ask you some questions? Smiley smile

    Thanks! Smiley smile

Also, do you have a link for caroline gallagher photography?
