Newborn twins at wedding

Louise, 2 January, 2025 at 11:41 Posted on Planning 0 1
My cousin and his wife are expecting twins at the time of our wedding after a long period of difficult TTC. I'm so happy for them and know coming to the wedding will be a huge ask so would not be offended if they can't make it. If they do come, I'd really rather they don't bring the newborns they'd be a matter of week(s) old. It's not a hotel that they cant even go off to a separate area to chill out. I'm not super close so feels like such an awkward convo. How do I word it! We will have other kids at the wedding but no babies. Can I even ask that?

You can request anything you want at your wedding - the question is more whether you should! It's especially tricky since even 'no children' weddings usually make an exception for babies.

One alternative might be to invite them but stress that you totally understand if it is too much for them to commit to with newborn twins - and hope that they don't feel like making the effort. Of course, there is a risk that they will feel able to come - in which case, you have two small babies at your wedding.

Of course you can invite them but tell them they can't bring the kids, but I think there is quite a high risk of causing upset if you do. I guess you have to weigh up how important it is not to have babies at your wedding versus how important it is not to upset your cousin.
