Newly engaged and need a cheap wedding venue in the North West?

daisydoll, 16 July, 2012 at 22:19 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hello Smiley smile

My lovely H2B proposed last week and as excited as I am, I just can't seem to find a venue that we can afford and that isn't a dump (sorry if I sound snobby!)

We are looking anywhere in the North West, Shropshire or Yorkshire for May/June 2013.

Any suggestions?

Thank you Smiley smile

Try local council properties they tend to be competitively priced. Here is Salford we have Worsley court house, its really old, lovely inside and the food is good, also Buile Hill banqueting suite which is a modern building but in a park with a lovely private outdoor space , both of these venues will do a bacon and sausage barm type evening menu which is very cost effective .

A lot of chain hotels have good priced wedding packages so its probably worth looking at the chains like Devere,Holiday inn, village hotels etc, I don't know your budget but my choice would generally be a Marriott or some of the bigger DeVeres .Also you can generally save money if you don't go for a Saturday

Red Hall Hotel in Bolton is nice and seemed to have some v well priced packages, equally The Eagle at Barrow but no accommodation. It depends what you're after really, can you be more specific?

My friend had her reception in the Irish Club in Chorlton, Manchester - they ended up getting the room hire for free because so much was spent at the bar! I think you have to get caterers in though, not sure if they do food. But the room is really nice and looked great all dressed up.

We are looking at around 25-30 for the ceremony and afternoon tea and then 50 for the evening party.

I was hoping to pay under £2,000 for the venue and then hoping we can sort out our own catering.

Sorry if I sound vague, I am just new to all of this!

We wanted maybe an old barn or something.

Thanks for everyones help Smiley smile x

I live quite near Worsley court house but am not a fan of it- especially because it is right on the roundabout!

I was hoping for a venue for less than £2,000 then we could sort out caterers/entertainment ourselves xx

Where abouts in the North West are you looking, im from near the Warrington area - we had our reception at Mere Golf and Country Club, i dont know if the have any offers on for next year but we booked about 15 months in advance to get the dates we wanted and they held the prices for us.

You could try Lymm Hotel depending on numbers and what time of year you want they do fantastic deals, /our-hotels/north-england/warrington/the-lymm-hotel/weddings/

I know somebody that is getting married at the Paddington House Hotel i have never been so i cant comment,

There is also Tatton Hall - in Tatton park and Walton Hall, both lovely venues and i think its exclusive use, and you can choose one of their caterers and make it as cheap / expensive as you want.https://www.tattonpark.org.uk/celebrationscorporate/weddings.aspx

you could also look at Statham Lodge - really popular, might be worth enquiring about. http://www.statham-lodge.co.uk/WeddingPack2012.pdf

My brother got married at Heaton House farm which was lovely

    Hiya

I got married at the best western fir grove and they do do packages on a Friday and sunday I can't remember how much they came in at as we did a Saturday and didn't package it as it wasn't right for us.

Darsbury park did £3,000 Saturday weddings when we looked and the fri/sun was cheaper this inc chair covers etc as well Smiley smile

Village hotel Warrington came in around 4k for 50 sit down and 100 at night

Park royal do packages but these are a little more expensive

Holiday inn and ramada encore at haydock had fantastic deals on around feb time (our chair covers were from haydock they told us) one was £2,500 for everything down to the cake!!!

Statom lodge gorgeus outside but overpriced in my opinion

Almost neighbours! I live in Ellesmere park, Monton .

Aside from the roundabout the court house is lovely inside, I think you can hire Buile hill banqueting suite and bring in your own catering but to be honest if you want to hire any venue that does catering you are going to pay a fortune as they make their money on the food and drink. One of my wedding customers hired the Copethorne hotel for an asian wedding and brought their own caterers in, the hotel charged them the same amount to hire the venue that another customer paid for her whole wedding there .

    Hi daisydoll

Congratulations! I while back I looked at some NW venues (but stopped my homework when we moved our venue to London!). Anyway thought I'd share with you some stuff I liked in the NW.

    1) Rivington Hall Barn, 2) Slaidburn Village Hall -- I really liked the look of this because can use outside caterers to keep costs down 3) The Inn at Whitewell 4) The Calfs Head in the ribble valley .

Try googling village halls in lancashire or yorkshire. The amount of stuffy old fashioned village halls that have been replaced with lovely modern halls complete with catering kitchens, wifi, airy dining spaces etc was suprising to me and an easy way to keep costs down. The more country ones like Slaidburn have lovely views too.

    5) Golf clubs, rugby clubs. I picked an area that I knew the name of somewhere in the radius of where I wanted to go and googled golf, rugby and football clubs in this area. I was suprised at how many really nice but not overpriced venues were available - it just depends on exactly what you want which venue would suit. 6) There are loads of nice pubs in the Ribble Valley - worth looking at a few - some have marquees and private dining spaces.

Really hope this helps - I've had some great tips from this forum x
