Nigellas coke ham cooking time help

Kegsey, 30 December, 2008 at 13:31 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

I have a gammon joint and I want to cook it using Nigellas coke ham recipe but her timings are based on a joint weighing 2kg and mine weights 1.3kg. So how long do I cook it for? Have tried to google but not getting very far ☹️

I halved the recipe last year so cooked it for half the time, plus 20 mins (as it was straight from the fridge).

She says 1 hour per kilo then abit extra if it is cold from the fridge. So for that I would do it for 1 hour 40 if cold, an hour 30 if not. Check also the instructions on the back of the package that should give you a good guide.

It's 2.5 hours for 2kg so that should be ok.

Thanks everyone. H found some cooking times per lb and worked it out to 1 hour 20. I missed the bit where she says an hour per kilo ?. Gammon is from the butchers, so no instructions.

Slow cooking it sounds interesting (for the next one ?). How much liquid do you put into it?

I just buy the cheapo stuff from Tesco - I use a bottle of coke to cover it (I actually have done it with both coke, cherry coke and cider) all come out lovely - no glazing and the coke varieties are great as leftovers with pasta, peas, parmesan and cream. (in the kids bit of feast!)

Thanks MBK, I might give that a go sometime (and put our lazy slow cooker to use!)
