No band/DJ in the evening - entertainment ideas?

Annah304, 27 November, 2011 at 11:34 Posted on Planning 0 8

A good friend of mine is getting married next year. She has the venue all booked but has found that they can't have amplified music in the evening. The venue is important to her so changing isn't an option. They are now thinking about alternative entertainments for the evening and have asked for suggestions. Has anyone got any ideas or experiences from their own weddings/wedding planning that might help please?

So far I have thought of:

- "Casino" tables

- Chocolate fountain

- Magician (assuming people will be standing/sitting in groups drinking & chatting)

Any other thoughts welcome!

Thank you ?

A violinist and / or pianist can provide a wide-ranging mix of music (more than a string quartet)... duelling pianists can also be very entertaining, without the need for amplification!

I would suggest something a bit interactive. I regularly hire lighting to a Fun Casino, and they appear to be very busy with Weddings.

Ultimately, it will depend on your guests and the style she's looking for.

Thanks all - some really good ideas, I love the idea of duelling pianists!

Anniepie, there are a number of reasons why it's not allowed, partly because of the nature and partly because of the location of the venue. I don't think it is something that particularly bothers her and her H2B - they chose the venue as it is an important place to them and so they will work around the limitations I'm sure.

    Thanks again ?

    Caricaturist

    Mime

Quiz for each table- last wedding we were at, each table were given 10 questions & the most interesting/funny were read out & the winning table won a prize. They were all wedding related questions about the quirky things they do in different cultures/countries. Very entertaining & funny.

I too would think acoustic music of some sort to be the best option

Ooh I love the idea of a caricaturist! I am making a note of all of these though as obviously not up to me, just ideas generation for her ?

I expect they will have non-amped music of some kind. She did mention having a string quartet earlier in the day so they might ask them to play in the evening too.

    Thanks ?

A magician is great entertainment, live, interactive, engaging. Like you said gathering small groups, and entertaining people. I specialise in close up magic and it's becoming increasingly popular at weddings. It also fits in well with other entertainment such as musicians or caricaturists.
