Beginner September 2024 Essex

No Best Man

Hey,
Planning a 2025 wedding, very newly engaged, but my H2B has just informed me he doesn’t think he will have a best man.
He lost contact with all friends whilst in a previous, controlling relationship, he has one school friend but sees him, at most, once a year.He currently works with his Dad but should be starting a new job after summer where I’m hoping he will make some friends. I thought he may ask his Dad as they are extremely close but he said he doesn’t want to put that pressure on him.I also suggested asking my brother as they are very close but he said that would just be weird as he isn’t his ‘best friend’ and can’t talk to him in a way he would a best friend.
Not sure what the point of my post is, I just feel really sad for him.I don’t really have many friends myself but will potentially be having my SIL and 2 friends as BMs. Has anyone else got wed without a beat man?

My H2B isn’t having a best man. His closest friends live abroad and can’t come to the wedding. He has 2 brothers but they’re not close (one isn’t even coming).
I have felt a bit sad for him at times, especially when his abroad friends both sent RSVPs of “no” on the same day. He says he’s fine with it. His dad is going to be our ring bearer, so will have a role on the day at least.
I hope his dad and uncle will take him for pre-wedding drink as he’s not having a stag do. My sister’s husband wanted to take him out but he said that would be too weird as they haven’t ever hung out together without us around unless they’re doing DIY.
So I completely understand how you feel!

We didn't have a best man or bridesmaids. We have a small group of friends but no one that really stuck out as a best friend that we would offer that role to or that could commit to helping us.

My OH had a best man, but I didn't have any bridesmaids. It really doesn't matter. If he's sad not to have close friends, then that is something he can work on over time, but for the wedding day, it's fine not to have a best man.
