No wedding reception just evening do!

michaelar29, 7 March, 2018 at 09:49 Posted on Planning 0 3

Me and my partner have been together for 6 years have a house, 2 children and we both don’t want a big wedding. We want to get married in the registry office around 4pm and then after pictures etc go straight to the evening do. It cuts down on costs for us that we haven’t got and also the stress of not being able to invite everyone to just a day time reception. This way everyone gets to celebrate with us.

I was just wondering how you would word the invitation or if anyone has seen a nice poem that would fit this.

Xx

    Something like;

Bride and Groom request the pleasure of your company

    *wedding date*

    *ceremony place and time*

Followed by an evening of celebration at

    *evening do location*

That's what I would put! Hope this helps somewhat x

I saw this recently for an evening only invitation, maybe you could adapt it slightly more :-)

Our wedding day is planned, a day we wish to share
With all of those we know and love. We really want you there!

If money were no object, and we were millionaires
We’d hold a great big banquet for the folk for whom we care.

But sadly though we’re rich in love, and family and friends,
To do what we would wish to do, there’s not enough to spend.

And so we hope you’ll understand, because we want you all,
We’ve decided to do an evening reception and kept the wedding small.

I don't think you need any special wording to explain this situation - "registry office and then evening do" is not that uncommon. I would just say, essentially, "XXX Registry office at 4pm followed by evening celebrations at YYYY".

    Hope that helps!

I think the first reply will be fine.
