Non DJ Entertainment options for a small venue (~50 guests)

ChronicChemist, 27 January, 2013 at 14:52 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi all,

I'm having my reception in a small venue with approximately 40-50 guests and am stuck on what to organise for the evening entertainment. Me and HTB do not want a DJ as we're not fussed about dancing and believe our guests will want to chat without shouting over the music. A Ceilidh is no good either as the space is not suitable... help - any other ideas?

Thanks all

I seen some people on here talking pub quizzes. Where are you based. There are loads of good choral and barber/barbie shop groups in our area.

I'd just play some background music and allow your guests to chat. They're grown-ups, they should be able to 'entertain' themselves, you shouldn't need a Butlins cabaret.

If you really want something, options include a short set from a singer/small band, magician, caricaturist, casino tables...

Have you thought about an Acoustic guitatrist/singer? Less intrusive but still a focal point for people

    Hello

I've done quiet a few smaller weddings - 24 guests was the lowest! And sang some light background whilst everyone chatted - swing, rat pack, easy listening, love songs - and it workeed really well. It adds just a little something to the atmosphere, rather than just having the sound of chatting, and also adds a visual element to those who may want something to watch. Whilst I'm not singing I just play some background music, which can be songs of the bride and groom's choice if they wanted to put together their own play list.

Obiovusly I'm not sure of your location and dates, but let me know if you would be interested in finding out more.

    James ?
