Non religious/minimal religious church wedding.

Aimee, 17 October, 2022 at 16:05 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 1 3
This might sound odd to some or so.e may be in same situation.... we are getting married in a church that we adore it's a 5 minute walk from our house, it's small and it was built for queen Victoria, designed by Albert (isle of wight) the history behind it and the decor etc is beautiful. However we are not church goers or religious.
The church warden knows all this and is fine with it. I'm just wondering anyone else getting married in a church who are not religious??
We don't want our service to be overwhelming by religious talk, we want it about us and obviously there will be some religion which we dont mind but just dont want it being long and as some people may say boring.. that may sound bad but it's how we feel. Has anyone had a modern day church wedding. What happened and what was involved etc. Hymns?? Reading's?? I don't want to feel awful on my wedding day wishing I had got married in a barn or somewhere else.

I've not done this but I've been to fair share of church weddings. I think you need to have a long and honest chat with the vicar, who I assume will be conducting your ceremony? Ask to see what the order of service is and what wording is statutory and what can be changed. That way you can have control over how much religious content is involved.

There are some beautiful hymns that everyone seems to know from childhood hut if that's really not your thing, double check if you can have your own music or band, and check if the church will allow secular music.
Some churches/denominations are way more relaxed than others!
    Good luck!

Yes, they are waiting for a new vicar so once they have got one we will be having a chat with them.
The church warden who is in charge of the place says it will be fine but yes we definitely need to have a chat about order of service.
I discussed the songs last night with the other half and we said it would be a blast from the past to choose fun once that people know from childhood. Thanks for the reply . Chat with vicar is on the todo list

Good to hear, especially as it's a new vicar!
