Nothing like a wedding to bring out the best in people

I went to my cousins wedding at the weekend, and it was a fantastic day, which given the family circumstances is quite amazing really. My auntie divorced my ex-uncle 10 years ago when she found out he'd been having an affair with another man behind her back for several years. At the time their two kids were 9 and 14, and to say this had an devestating effect on them is an understatement. My whole family disowned him for how he treated my auntie and the kids immediately after it all happened and I haven't actually seen him since.

So fast forward 10 years and his eldest son gets married. My auntie really didn't want ex-uncle there but we managed to persuade her that she should hold her head high and put the kids first. Which she did and I'm so proud of her. Even my Granda who obviously hates my uncle with a passion bought him a drink!

The wedding was fantastic, we all had an absolute scream and everyone from both families got on fantastically well all day. My auntie and ex-uncle sat together on the top table and posed for photos together, the groom got to spend lots of time with his dad and the bride even danced with the father of the groom in the evening. Even the ex-uncles boyfriend (same guy he cheated on my auntie with) was invited and was on the photos, so was accepted as part of the day.

I'm so glad that everyone in both families managed to put their differences aside for the sake of the bride and groom and let them have a fantastic day with no bust ups.

How lovely for the B&G! I really thought that the title was a sarcastic one, so it was nice to read something positive!

What a lovely story - I was expecting this to end in a bust up.

I never thought about that being interpreted as sarcastic, thankfully I wasn't being! ?

I thought the same tbh, glad I was wrong. I was going to add and funerals.

These sort of things never happen with my family. at a funeral on saturday stayed out with a few of my family afterwards. I'm not doing that again for a while, my brother upset my dad, my younger was crying because my dad was upset. And I had to be the go between with everyone. Gah.

Glad you had nice family story.
