Had been thinking of having no other children to the wedding except my 8 year old son but am now thinking he might feel a bit bored being the only child.
So I have decided to invite my best friend's 7 year old daughter to be a flower girl - she and my son get on really well. She has a younger sister who will also come and there will be one other child (friends who live a fair distance away and wouldn't be able to leave her with anyone overnight). My best friend was my bridesmaid at my first marriage so it seems quite appropriate.
Do you think it matters I've only asked the 7 year old to be a bridemaid? Should her 4 year old sister get involved too?
It may push our numbers slightly over but figure I'll only have to add on the children as extras so not as much as adding adults. And that is only if everyone on our guest list comes along. And it gives my son someone to play with :-)
Have finalised our plans for table decorations - as something a bit different (and to be honest a bit cheaper than flowers) we're going for mirror plates with an assortment of blue glass bottles surrounded by ivory rose petals and then sprinkle some diamond-like crystals on the tables. Should be quite effective I think.
I think your centrepieces sound lovely MrsWatkinsToBe, I haven't seen any like before and I can imagine them being very pretty Do you think your bridesmaids little sister will want to get involved or will she not really be fussed? If its a new surrounding with lots of people would she prefer to be close to her mum =/ could you ask your friend and she what she suggests?
Hope everyone is well. This morning I've been really sad and practised my married signature! It's so hard, just doesn't flow from the pen I actually do have proper work to do but I just can't get motivated on this freezing cold morning!
Your centrepieces sound lovely MrsWatkinstobe. Have you thought anymore about having your friends other daughter involved? It's a bit of a tricky situation really. Let us know how your dress hunt goes.
Morning AnnaMolly Have you got the hang of your married signature yet I'm not taking my OH's name so I don't have to practise a new signature, which is good since I can't get my normal one right most of the time!
Hope you all had a lovely weekend too J I
spend most of mine stuck in my flat being poorly L Cant shift this cold so opted to stay in!
I love how we all have the same worries lol! I had the same
thought about my signature; I have just changed the surname on my current one
to the new one and thought that would be the best option.
I’m currently arrange a get together with my ladies to try
and create origami flowers.
Had a good trip to the bridal dress shops this morning. Haven't yet found 'the one' but do like the Maggie Sottero gowns, especially Alma so think something fitted/corsetry type top with floaty chiffon skirt is the way to go.
Did get some Converse-like shoes to change into for the evening disco - bought them in New Look for £12.99 (bargain)
Morning! Very excited today, I think I might just have booked the makeup artist I really wanted. Just need her to confirm payment details for a deposit and it's done, very happy!
I really have nothing to do right now so I’m really itching
to do something; everything I have left to do is big things and have to wait
for a certain time frame hehe.
I've been absent for a few days as I've had a few things to deal. I hope everyone's planning is going well?
I had my first fitting for my dress today. It's the first time I have seen it in ivory as I tried on the blush colour. It looked beautiful! The full amount has been paid so I now officially own a wedding dress! Luckily I don't need any alterations, I just need to lose about 2 inches so it's comfy. Here it is... I have decided I will definitely be having my hair down as I resemble a chipmunk with my hair up! I just need my Nan to agree on a style! I don't have to go back til September now. Hopefully by then the extra inches will be gone!!
Sara poppy- your dress is stunning, I ended up getting a ball gown type, the complete opposite to what I had in mind, I cannot wait until April when it should arrive!
I feel I'm lagging behind as haven't even chosen mine yet. Both the ones I like are discontinued so would have to buy the shop sample outright. Debating between Maggie Sottero's Alma and Claudia.
Hoping to get the bridesmaid dresses purchased tonight on eBay.
SaraPoppy Your dress is very similar to mine! It looks lovely
I went wedding dress shopping for the first time on Saturday and ended up finding an end of season dress that fit me perfectly, so my dress is all bought and paid for. The shop are storing it for me until the wedding. I didn't think I'd find a dress that easily.
Next nightmare now is trying to find a photographer within our budget. We just had a quote back from someone we know who said she would do us a good deal, but the quote we've had is £300 over our budget and from talking to a few people, she was looking to charge us a lot for what we wanted. I've already emailed a couple of other photographers who have been recommended to us, so fingers crossed we hear back from them soon.
Still trying to find the dress - typically both dresses that I really like are discontinued so proving difficult to find somewhere with one in stock to try on. Have seen one online at a great price but a bit nervous of buying it without trying it first. It's a Maggie Sottero Claudia. I have to say I loved the shape all her dresses gave me when I went to a bridal shop on Monday and tried some on, and liked both Alma and also the laced up back corset type dresses. Claudia has the chiffon of Alma which I really liked with the lovely laced up back so very tempted to take the risk, especially as the laced up back allows a bit of variation in fit.
I see that you have all made major leaps in getting things done. I am going to flash some pics of my progress. I hope it works.
I have started to aggressively save towards the wedding so cutting back on other things to make it happen. Hopefully everything should be paid for by July. We are expecting financial help from both our parents but until it materialises, we shall assume that we are paying for it all ourselves.
I have already sent the first wave of invites to family in America, Germany and Africa to give plenty of time to decide whether they can make it or not. Also flights will be cheaper the earlier they book them. The exciting thing is some of them have never been to the UK so this is going to be their big holiday; the Germans plan to make a road trip out of it all the way to Scotland after the wedding. Some of the Americans plan to visit London and Bath during their visit.
I will send the rest of the invites in May after I have confirmed the number of people from the 1st wave.
While we have had everything else made for us, I really wanted to DIY something, I felt like it would make it more us. We have used a picture of a stag head with decorative horns on our invitations so I thought I should let the them continue in our stationery. I am in the process of finishing the table number designs. A bit over the top but it has been an enjoyable process. All that I have used is a pencil, black and green gel ink pens and ivory hammered paper card. I am yet to finish the design on table 4,5 and 8. I bought these heart-shaped holders but I have now learnt that they are not very stable with the cards on them. I will have to think of another way to hold the cards; maybe blu tack to keep the holders in place .
I also bought this heart shaped picture frame to use as our table plan. I have put in 2 sample plans to see what it would look like.
I am going to book my dress fitting for Saturday afternoon now that I have got my shoes. They are very comfy from New look. I believe they are in the sales now so even cheaper.
Thank you for your nice comments on my dress ladies :-) I'm very excited! We now need to sit down and order our invites. I have no idea where to begin! The wording, all the info, the colours... Everything about then stresses me out! I keep trying to look at some then get worked up and look at something else!xx
SarahPoppy - I have just seen your dress, I missed it earlier for some reason, it is gorgeous. You look very pretty in it indeed. I too found that it took so long to come up with the right wording for the invites. I actually thought it would be the easiest part but I was wrong. I even found myself stressing over whether to add our parents names or not. I ended up with very traditional wording, straight to the message. I find that people don't even read most of the wording apart where they are going and what time. I am guilty of this.
Happy Polly- I thought I was being silly stressing over the invites! We are trying to keep to a budget and every time I find a design I like I then have to add in the RSVP cards, envelopes, extra pages, blah blah blah and it works out really expensive. I'm not brilliantly creative otherwise I would make my own. I know I sound a bit tight but I don't want to spend lots of money on something that people will probable throw away after the day.
I think a lot of people usually address them fr on their parents but that wouldn't really work for us due to step families and such so we thought about sending them from our Son. Is that a bit sickly? It would say something like "Mylo requests your company at Mummy and Daddy's wedding" we would obviously have out names on it somewhere so people knew who's wedding they were going to!xx
Love both dresses AlmostMrsS - if it was a company could you share the link to the bridesmaid dresses as they are lovely and if they do royal blue could be exactly what I've been looking for.
I've had a good day.
Paid our deposit to the photographer this morning and sorted out the room allocations at the hotel for our family for the night of the wedding. Just need to pop to the venue on Saturday to confirm which rooms for which people.
I had a quick look and unfortunately they only come in Navy Blue and Red however in person they are not very dark so they may still be an option for you.
Actually give me five minutes and I will take a picture of mine for you
** EDIT ** Sorry I couldn't get a good picture of mine! the camera on my phone is shocking and isn't picking up any detail SORRY

Have just spent a little while deciding on music for the service. Following our theme of traditional with a hint of geek we've pretty much decided on these:
Entry of the bride - instrumental version of 'She's the One' by Robbie Williams
During the signing of the register - Instrumental version of the Firefly theme, a full 6 min version of the Fringe theme and the Game of Thrones theme (about 10mins total)
Leaving at the end of the ceremony - The 11th doctor theme from Doctor Who (not the theme tune)
We figure fellow geeks will recognise them and non geeks will just think they are nice tunes. What do you think? x
