Joining in with the thread officially now! My date is 10th October - which is a bit odd I guess as it is the date my father passed away.
It was the reason I chose the date - a day that has been sad for so long will become a happy one with his memory in it - works for me anyway and my Mum has accepted it too :-)
We paid loads out this weekend! We have secured the church, reception (although our final exact quote is being firmed up we are happy with the estimate), photographer and florist.
We also went cake tasting and I am going wedding dress shopping next week for the first time!
Looking forward to seeing ideas/sharing happies and horrors on here with you all! :-)
Hello!! Welcome to October board, we are pretty chatty bunch but the girls are lovely ? and like everyone has said, we all love a flash!
how are you doing with your planning?
Thanks everyone, cant wait until the 28th to go pick it up! I'm not sure about flashing it as I dont want a photo of me in it in case I show someone as I want it to be a surprise, however I may take one for you ladies and then delete it from my phone completely. ?
Hahaha I like your style firsttimebride.... ok ok you’ve
talked me into it, it will be some odd selfie lol! But just for you ladies I
shall flash, then delete and wipe my phone and hide this forum so no one i Know
will find it hahaha
It's just dawned on me, OH is not having best man but our son will be stood with him. I've already bought son's suit (SO Cute!) and we're getting OH one in the same colour (grey). Will it look odd if son wears a waistcoat and bow tie and OH wears a suit and tie?x
So i have just been back to try the dress on again and its definatly the 1!! But stupid me forgot to take a pic of me in it, so you will have to wait untill july/august to see a proper flash.
i have just brought my shoes aswell so you can have a flash of them! I dont do heels and comfort is top. These are so comfortable with the cushioned bottom.
Also went to see the photographer i want he was fab and said he'd hold our date until an up and coming wedding fayre hes attending so we can have any offers he putting on.

I am getting married in Chesterfield, Derbys but live in Dudley!
My OH is from that area and I am from Notts/Derbys so all our friends are over there.
Got church, venue, a great tog (a friend and a professional) and the florist sorted. Think we have the cake maker sorted too now but not the cake itself!
I spotted something on the boards about Red Dwarf? As a Dwarfer (and a Dimension Jump attendee!) can you explain what this was about?
I may need to trawl back through lots of messages! :-)
Red Dwarf has come up a couple of times. I am having ships from sci-fi shows as my table names and Red Dwarf is one of those.
I've also had the idea to write to a number of celebrities requesting best wishes for our wedding as a surprise and the members of the Red Dwarf cast are amongst those. So far I've had replies from Chris Barrie (arrived today), Craig Charles, Danny John Jules and Norman Lovett. Only sent out the letters at the start of March so still plenty of time to hear from the others.
In addition to those guys I've also had replies from David Tennant, Tom Baker, Joanna Lumley, Susan Hampshire, Jason Manford, Maisie Williams (Arya in Game of Thrones), the Welsh rugby team and Lego :-)
I wrote to about 40 people so not a bad return so far and obviously some people will take longer to reply than others. It's great when I get the post and see my SAEs coming back :-)
Eeeeeeeek! Just had a phone call from America.....Adam Richman's agent called!! H2b is a huuuuuuuuge Man vs Food fan! Eek this is so exciting! x He said he can't promise anything but will try and get a card :-)
I love the idea of the letters! Can I ask a couple of silly questions please? How do you know who to write to? As in address and stuff and what so you wrote? I was trying to think of what my fiancé would like, so far I've thought of the football team he supports, something to do with formula 1 (he's a huge fan but I have no idea) and possibly some bands he likes. I think it would be a very big and stressful challenge but I really like the idea.xx
firsttimebride83 - That's really cool :-) How did you contact him?
I've posted a few letters to American actors today so will have to wait and see if they are successful - I enclosed a couple of dollar notes as obviously couldn't send an SAE.
My most recent successes are Joanna Lumley, Chris Barrie and Jason Manford :-)
SaraPoppy - I just googled 'How do I contact' and the actors name. For sports teams I used the contact address on the club's website - I imagine if you wanted to contact a playeryou could send it care of the players club.
I hand wrote each letter, explained what I was doing and explained why we were fans and why a message from them would mean a lot. I sent an SAE with every letter too.
That is awesome! I love man vs food. Mainly the food
by the way, I really want my son and nephew in a bow tie so they're having them! OH and best men are wearing normal ties I think. I'm not bothered that they don't match, the cuteness of kids in bow ties is just too much.
Hello everyone Wow there's loads of posts to catch up on, I shall try not to miss anyone out! Sorry I haven't been around much you know the old saying "It never rains but it pours"? Well that certainly seems true for me and my family at the moment had my grandma's funeral on 25th Feb, and found out on the 27th that my grandad now has the same illness she died of. Talk about not f-ing fair! Still we got told last week that the prognosis is very good, but he has to have 9 weeks of chemo then 3 ops and then a further 9 weeks of chemo. He's being quite positive as is my step grandma and apparently I have to save him a dance as he'll try his hardest to be well enough to come to my wedding. And this week I received an email from the company I booked to do my sweet buffet, she's selling the business onto another person who I've never met and needs to send me a new contract. I'm hoping that the contract is the same as the one I have and that I won't end up having to spend more money =/ Then to top it all off, my poor niece had another fit and was back in hospital Wednesday. I've never ran out of work so quick in my life!! She's back home now but it is so scary Sorry to be a right misery ... sometimes you just need to vent!
Onto more happy things...
AnnaMolly - how are the invites & centrepeices coming along? Hope you managed to sort out your hotel accommodation now. I think your bouquet inspirations is very pretty, have you had any luck finding a florist?
firsttimebride83 - your wedding dress is gorgeous, it really suits you I think it will look quite sweet if you soon wears a bow tie and your OH wears a suit and tie.
LeighB3 - ooh hen do planning ... how's that coming along?
Lui - I'm sorry to hear you've been poorly and that your car has been playing silly buggars, I feel your pain! I hope you've got it all sorted now, and that it didn't cost you a fortune... Did you get your invites all finished? Hope your H2B has been spray painting everything that needs doing, I'm sure you have enough to do with the flower centrepieces Your flower girl dresses are absolutely adorable, and that's great that they were a bargain! Glad to see that your ticking off the list of things to be paid for, I must confess I totally cheated. I had to take out a loan to get my OH a new car (he has no credit so it went in my name), so I just took out more than we needed and paid off a whole bunch of wedding stuff and cleared my old credit cards as well. Only thing we have left to pay now is our TOG who we pay by standing order and our decorations. Did you decide to write your own vows in the end? How has the hunt for a hairdresser been going? I'm in exactly the same position Nice flowers btw ...Oh and you'd better flash your dress I can't wait to see it :p
misslynx - hello and welcome I think the reason behind choosing your date is really sweet, I'm sure your dad will be smiling down at you... Sounds like your being very organised! How are you finding it all?
MrsFRtobe - ooh I like your centrepiece inspiration how are the invitations coming along?
MrsWatkinsToBe - I love the idea of having an instrumental version of the Firefly theme, I love that show Glad to hear you & firsttimebride83 are both having lots of successes with your letters Have you decided what sort of sweeties to have in the evening? My OH & I are trying to decide this at the moment...
rach046 - hello and welcome Your dress is amazing, love the detail at the back! That's really nice of your TOG to hold the date for you, one less thing to worry about. Totally love your shoes, am looking for some like that for my evening do. How are you getting on with your plans?
SaraPoppy - I think your invites are really cool, I don't think they look like children's invites at all! Your wedding ring is beautiful it looks like it was made for your ER How are you getting on with your flowers?
Sparkly Bear - It's 197 days until its our wedding days! The time is absolutely whizzing by, it's quite scary!! How is the job hunt going? I hope you hear something back from your interviews, I'm sure you'll find something soon Your menu sounds really nice, can't wait to see a flash when all your inserts are done. I'm hoping to send mine out at the end of this month, but I realised I made a mistake on my invites and asked for RSVP's by 30th June ... do you think this will be ok?
LMP – Hiya lovely! Sorry to hear about everything
thats happened, have some strange internet hugs! Hopefully you have gone
through all the tough parts now and had your bought of bad luck now and that’s
it done and you just have plain sailing from here out!
I’m sorry to hear about your Granddad, but its
good to hear that its treatable which is very very good news! I hope your niece
is feeling better. Really just hope you
get some good luck now! ?
God don’t even get my started on my car, I’m really
in a pants position as my car is broken but still very drivable, the issue is a
sensor that could go at any time, so we have to get rid of it as its not worth
fixing as its £800 + so just not worth
it. Currently looking at new cars at the moment. However kind of in the same
boat as your H2B (stupid stupid younger Lui caused problems for adult Lui, if I
could go back!) plus all my savings is going into the wedding, so over the last
few weeks i think I’ve had 1 week where I haven’t cried, silly but this is what
stress does to you hey! I’m fine now but just trying to work on my options.
Cars are just a pain in the backside!
I’ve made 30 flowers so far however tomorrow is
the day where the girls are coming over and making them with me so will
hopefully have more, I’m going to slowly create them throughout the evenings as
well.
H2B hasn’t started spray painting things yet but that’s
mainly due to the weather, it’s been pretty miserable here so not really the
chance to spray them and then leave them outside. Now it’s spring (today is
gorgeous) hoping to get them done.
Thanks re: flower girls dresses, love them now
they are here. Girls won’t try them on until April when I go visit them but
they are petite and i got their ages so they should be fine for October.
Invite bits are finished just got to put them
together but with everything that’s been going on recently just haven’t felt
like doing much wedding stuff, only really got excited when my dress shop
called to say that it’s here!
Still not sure on vowels, may go into it more
when we see the people at the venue! See what H2B wants to do.
Of course I shall flash my dress, you ladies have
talked me into it.
Hopefully it will be awesome and I won’t have the
wobbles as I’m fed up of bad luck right now but I’m sure you know that feeling
too lovely!!
Oh god hairdresser, again something that added to
my bad luck, I couldn’t afford one, had a cry about it, some of my wonderful
friends came to my aid, one saying she will pay for it and another one saying
she will do it. So my friend is going to do it for me and I’m going to pay her
back in processco, flowers and a thank you card (although she doesn’t know this
yet!).
Thank you for the internet hugs, they are much appreciated! I'm also hoping that my bout of bad luck is officially over now, I could do with some plain sailing, and maybe even some good luck if there's any spare going...? Omg why are cars so expensive?? Their such a nightmare but we're so dependent on them I know what you mean about your younger self causing problems for your adult self, oh the things we never got told!! Sorry to hear you've been feeling so pants, and your right stress does make us cry (in my case a lot). Hopefully you'll find something soon Sounds like your doing well with the flowers...gotta love a bit of girl power! It's lovely weather here as well today, spring has definitely sprung Maybe get your H2B outside over Easter weekend, apparently it's going to be nice. I'm sure your flower girl dresses will be fine, I've bought my nieces as well and I'm sure it'll fit her in October. I know what you mean about not wanting to do wedding stuff, I need to write my invites and chase up my friend who's making the menu's/RSVP's but I just couldn't be bothered! Starting to feel a bit more excited about it all again today though so I might do some over the weekend. Oh goodness how lovely of your friends to help you out, that must be a total weight off your shoulders Personally I'd be well chuffed to get paid in Processco haha. Yay for a dress flash
Have some more Internet hugs. Sorry to hear about your grandad and niece. I hope it's more positive from now on.
I've just totally stalled in the wedding planning at the moment and I'm no further forward than I was last week. Work has taken over unfortunately. I kind of wish I could be paid in prosecco, would be nice!
Thanks AnnaMolly, am just hoping (and praying a little!) that nothing else could possibly happen now ... we shall see I suppose I didn't think you had much left to do hun, try not to stress... I still need an Ikea trip to try and find some more cheapy decorations! Hm after the day I've had today I could quite happily open a bottle of prosecco, who's with me?
