I wasn't planning on a veil originally but when I tried one on in the bridal shop I loved it! I felt like a bride and I'm never going to have an opportunity to wear one again.
The back of my dress also has loads of detail but I plan on taking it off after the ceremony/some photos.
Of the weddings I've been to (loads), about 50% of brides wore one. I wouldn't worry if it's not something you want. Definitely don't need one.
I was like AnnaMolly, I wasn't planning on wearing a veil as I wanted to have my natural afro out; but then I tried on that long veil and I instantly felt like a bride. Not even the dress made me feel like one. The veil did it for me. I will flash in June when I go to the shop to pick up the dress and veil. Mine has also got little sparkles on it.
rach046 - Your definitely not alone in not having a veil, I know a few brides who chose not to have one. In all honesty I wasn't going to, but I was watching "Don't Tell The Bride" with my OH a-g-e-s ago and he was in total disbelief that one groom didn't get his bride a veil. According to my OH "it's nice to see a bride wear a veil, it make the dress extra wedding-ing" <- ?! So naturally I then went and panicked and tried some veils on ... I realised that actually as my dress is very plain at the back (see previous post!) so it does make it look a little bit more special, plus it did make me feel more like a bride If the back of your dress is your favourite part then don't cover it up
Rebeccafcr - if your not sure what colour to get, order some free samples from them to take with you for when you next see your dress
I don't post much, but you're such a lovely group that I feel like I should get more involved and I would also like your opinions. So I picked up my wedding ring. But I'm a little concerned about it; it's not very wedding ring like. Do you think that matters too much? I really love it, but I can't help thinking that it looks silly on me.
? I was impatient as well, I have my dress at home though so as soon as I got my samples I could go ahead and order They quoted me 2-3 weeks and I had it by the end of the second week
Thank you You've put my mind at rest; I just thought that maybe it didn't really go too well, and looked a little silly. But I'm looking forward to wearing it now!
Hi everyone, hows everything going? me and my partner as also in the process of buying a house at the minute so the wedding is on the back burner for the next few weeks! I should be getting the call anytime now to tell me my gown has arrived though
Im just wondering when the right time to send invites are? what is everyone else doing?
I've already sent mine. But that's because we didn't have STDs, and we have a lot of family coming from quite a distance, and we wanted to give them enough time.
Morning all! MrsFRtobe it must exciting to be buying a new house, how are you juggling it with wedding planning? My OH and I agreed that we'd look at houses next year, no way could I cope with all the changes at work, a wedding, and a new house ... my brain would explode ? I sent all my invites on Monday of this week, it took me such a long time to finally get them sorted that I just wanted them done and gone! Not the right attitude I know, but I have got my excitement back now I've had a few RSVP's My family are normally quite shocking at replying to invites etc so I've asked for RSVP's by 30th June, I expect after some chasing I'll get them all by the beginning of August...
Littlemisspanda- i know, i have had a couple of overwhelming moment but my fiance and both sets of parents have been brilliant. we were just looking at houses but found the perfect one so put mine on the market and that sold for the full asking price within 12 hours! so all very quick, we hope to complete in mid may so should have a few weeks relaxed before the pre wedding stress takes hold. luckily i have been super organised with wedding planning so only have invites/flowers and a few other smaller issues to sort!
I'm definitely going to need a honeymoon after all this! lol
Sorry i’ve been away, I’ve been really busy trying to get a
new car sorted! Finally have an now just waiting for it to arrive at the
dealership! Meant to be today but no call as of yet! Guess I have missed alot!
I’m trying to catch up at the moment.
LMP – The hairstyle is beautiful, i want something like that
but just will need to think. I have an appointment with my friend on the 14th
so will take my veil and also ask opinions for her. At the moment all my hair
does is sit in a scruffy bun because it needs sorting! Booked in to get it
chopped tomorrow though so will probably feel better about it then!
Happy Polly – You’re veil sounds wonderful!! If you can
flash I think you should.
AnnaMolly – I was the same, thought about a birdcage one for
a while, then my sister in law put hers on me which is cathedral length and I
was in love.
TheFuturemrskay – Hi there!!! Nice to meet you, your ring is
stunning! It’s so different and I like that about it! Who cares if its not
traditional as long as you like it that’s the main thing as you’re the one who
will be wearing it for the rest of your life! Regarding invites, Ive sent some
to my family in Dubai already because they have the furthest to travel, then
when me and H2B go to see his family next month we are taking them over so they
can be given out then, next is my Granddad as I want him to have something to
look forward to, then at the start of may we are driving the local ones out and
then posting the rest for them to come back by the 1st August,
mainly so I can chase people during august and early September.
Lui- i know, not the most relaxing time at the minute but its all good we are visiting friends in the depths of wales this week, there will be no phone signal..i can't wait! a few day of chilling out!
Hi Lui, glad to hear you have a new car now, hope it turns up soon for you Definitely recommend having your hair cut so you feel better about it, and then start planning a hairstyle. It's difficult to find something you like when you feel a bit meh. I reckon your hairdresser will have some nice ideas, and it'll help that they can see what accessories you want to wear as well. I was seriously hating my hair but I've had it cut & highlighted and I like it again now...just need to find a wedding hairdresser =/
MrsFRtobe, I hope you enjoy your relaxing week off. It sounds lovely!
This sounds amazing! Do think of me while I try and entertain my 3 children over the next 2 weeks.
We are FINALY going to pay the deposit to our venue this week, then it will all be come real that I still have everything to do in just 6 and a bit months! I do have my kids outfits pretty much sorted though, just million and 1 other things!
Yay for paying the venue deposit, try not to freak about about the things you have left to do ... you'll be absolutely fine! If in doubt make a list, that always helps me
Went dress shopping and found 'it' on the second day!
Read about people crying and rubbish and scoffed at it. Tried on dresses and some were ok, some out of my price range, some horrible. End of day 1 found a possible (my two friends loved it but I wasn't sure of the top) and decided I loved chiffon and hated taffeta.
Second day I end up with a taffeta dress! lol!
I tried it on and it felt lovely. When the assistant said it was time to come off I felt so tearful and admitted I didn't want to take it off.... it was over my budget even though discounted so we went for a drink and a cupcake to calm down.
Went back, and still loved it. Put make up on loved it more. Pulled my hair up and the dress got better. Put a tiara on and I could feel the princess inside beating up the accountant! pmsl!
So I have the dress. There is a bad side. There is a lot of back fat. My partner could think my back is my front! However, I am fat. I will have back fat in any corset. Fact. They have also thrown in a pretty lace jacket FOC (usually £99) and the detail on this will hide my back cleavage!
Can't believe I have spent so much on a dress - was really emotional all of yesterday.
Fortunatly I wake this morning and still like the dress! :-)
My top tips -
Take dress off, leave shop, go back and try on again
When you know its serious, get a friend to take photos at all angles - especially the worst bits. Look and see if you are prepared to live with them!
Always ask for a discount or ask if accessories can be thrown in if you are at the top of your budget!
Still skipping along all excited here! :-D
Ps, No veil!!! :-)
PPs. Removed the photo now in case prying eyes who shouldn't see, see! lol!
We did this a couple of weeks ago. If you are like me you will want to cry as it is so much money to commit to! But it does mean you are on your way, there is no turning back and everything is going to plan!
MissLynx - dress is lovely and you really do look super happy! Its only 1 day after all so its worth going a little over budget!
I cant wait to get the deposit paid, we are very lucky that our parents are paying for everything. I just have to try and stay within a resonable budget. xx
I am nearly finished all of our invites and may have found some bridesmaid dresses! The invites have taken ages and I wasn't sure I was going to find dresses in the right colour but fingers crossed they now all look good!
