Rebecca, No you really don't need 6 inches cut off. People with much longer hair than you have curls! As long as you hairdresser uses the right products then you should have long lasting curls. Yes they will drop a bit through out the day but nothing that should make you be put off my having curls. Xx
Hoping to be an October 2015 bride! But we haven't actually booked anything yet (fairly close to!) so I'm miles behind everyone else on this thread :-) x
Welcome Rachhj. Me and OH only put our deposit down on the venue this week so theres still plenty of time for you to go for October! Have you been looking at venues, dresses yet? Xx
I hope everyone has had a productive Easter weekend.
I had to work Doing graveyard shift (****) Saturday and Sunday; you don't get away with anything in management, haha. Although, the drunk people that I have to talk to can be hilarious. One did threaten to get the police to arrest me because I'm 'unprofessional'. He didn't take it to well when I told him that the police don't care if I'm professional or not.
But, because it was quiet, I managed to get a few wedding bits done! Booked my hotel room for my hen party, and finally organised all my wedding related emails into sections. I didn't realise how many there were! Ordered blankets and pashminas for my 'stay warm' box, and inflatables (guitars, bananas, flamingos, etc.) for a) pictures and b) for children to fight with. I also downloaded loads of music by the Vitamin String Quartet for the drinks reception, and put my MOH in charge of creating a fun morning playlist. I also booked a burlesque photo shoot (it's a gift for OH). I'm really nervous about it, as I'm quite shy, so it's really not me, but I've heard that they make it comfortable, so I'll see how it goes!
I also worked out a little more budgeting. This is also causing a little more stress. Basically, I know what I have to save for, but my car insurance comes up for renewal 3 weeks before the wedding. I know, wonderful timing. I like to pay everything off in full as much as I can, so I'd like to pay the full year upfront. But this will be my first ever renewal (I only passed my test in July 2014), so I have no idea how much to save. It's just a pain in the ass. I will be 21, with a 1.4 Megane, no accidents and I paid £1075 for the first year. Any insight would be marvellous.
Rebecca – I don’t think you need 6 inches off. As mentioned
before, the right products will keep hair in place. Why does he think 6 inches
will make any difference to the curls? My hair stays curlier when it’s longer
than when it’s shorter. If you don’t want it cutting don’t.
Rachhj33 – Welcome to the board lovely!! How’s it going?
Have you managed to book anything yet?
Thefuturemrskay – I hope you got lot of rest with the fact
you were working. Although I do now
wonder what you do? Paramedic maybe? Glad you got a few bits sorted at the same
time, quiet times at work always gives me the option to do things I don’t do at
home, wedding wise.
I’m not sure what your car insurance would be lovely, the
best thing to do would be to go on to a comparison site and put in details like
you are going to buy car insurance with the next 30 days and it will give you
an idea. However I think it will go down a little bit maybe to 600-700 maybe
from what I remember when I learnt to drive and insured my car (although it was
10 years ago now and I had a 1.6 turbo 306. Although now I feel old at 27
hahaha) so I could be completely off. Although I know how you feel, luckily I’ve
just brought a new car and it came with a year’s free insurance so I don’t have
to worry about that until next year and the wedding is over now.
Hope you get some decent quotes on the car to give you a
good idea.
Hope everyone else is ok!! ?
P.s. – Wax stamped my day invites last night, think i smoked
myself out, when you blow out a wax stamp with a wick it doesn’t half smell.
I'm resting now, haha. I'm finishing up my degree at the moment, but I work in a taxi firm as their out of hours manager/controller. Quite a strange one, but it works really well with my commitments at the moment. Definitely better than my last job in a betting shop.
I just had a look at comparison sites. It's not as bad as I thought. Especially when I put my mum as a named driver; she won't mind, haha! All this insurance malarkey is so confusing; I'm not a car person, obviously.
That's so exciting about the wax stamps! Are they ready to go out now? I've already sent mine, and we've had some rsvps; it's really exciting
I didn’t even think about taxi controller, I guess i'm just like the other people;
my taxi magic’s its way here! hehe! I've only ever heard scary things about
betting shops so its good you are out of that job now lovely!!
What are the comparison sites saying? My parents brought the policy down
too, that’s always good! Hope its more of a doable figure for you. I'm with you
though; I just go with what’s the cheapest and the best protection on some
things! hehe!
The day ones are, I'm currently working on the evening ones at the moment, however
some need to be done by the 18th as we are going to see H2B family then and
thought while we are down there we will take them with us and hand deliver
them, saving on postage. Then I will hand out my family ones when we are back
and the rest will go out after the 10th of May when we have had a meeting with
the venue, just want to make sure that the times are correct before sending
them all out and we have to change something. Plus its better that way as April
is packed with birthdays and stuff that it means I don’t have to stress getting
them completed super quick!!
Thats exciting!! Can’t wait until mine start coming back!
I was a little worried last week about my flowers but funnily enough I ran into the friends who were going to do it all and we had a great long chat and they have some amazing ideas for the flowers and other decorations too! Yay! That's a weight off my mind!
Now I think most big things are sorted...just rings, shoes/under garments and hair and make-up left to sort
I know! My bridesmaids still need to try on their dresses and make sure they look good...fingers crossed!
The guys are also going suit shopping in a couple of weeks too so they're on top of that!
I must admit though, it does feel a little strange thinking that pretty much all of the big stuff is sorted and now we need to think about the finer details!
The smaller stuff is where I'm at, putting all the finishing touches to things and it's so much work, more than what I expected! I'm currently putting the last of my invites together, then I'm moving on to the centrepieces and cleaning and decoratings the skulls and then building the flowers around them.
My mum is adding a sash to the bridesmaids dresses and I have my first hair trial on Tuesday of next week! H2B is leaving his suit until nearer the wedding at the moment as he has a race in August and doesn't want to pay out now for a suit when he will be losing weight and bulking up as its an 100 mile cycle (rather him than me!)
All I need to do is do another cake tasting and then finish off the name places, sort out my seating plan and find an iPod for the music for the ceremony.
Cat- That's so exciting! It's great when you get all the big stuff done.
Unfortunately someone has to send the taxis, haha! The betting shop wasn't so bad. I got paid good money, and when it was quiet I got to just read books. I worked the most in the summers off of uni, and got paid loads for not a little work. But the hours were long and unsocialable, and some of the people that 'live' in there are pitiable.
The lowest quote was £666, so that was pretty good. At the moment I'm on a multi car policy with some of my family, so it's good to know that if I go on my own policy that it won't be that bad.
Good luck for getting your invites out on time! I don't envy you having to make them.
Hello all! This thread moves so quick I can never keep track
I had quite a productive weekend. I think I've designed the invites, just need to get all the bits to make them now. Hotels for family are booked as well as our wedding night hotel. I should be going to see a florist on Friday to discuss flowers which I'm looking forward to. Manically pinning flower inspo on my Pinterest board today!
My OH has sorted his stag which is nothing to do with me but at least he's making progress on something. Maybe now he can look at suits! Same problem as Lui - he and his best men are bulking/losing weight (whatever the heck it is men do with weight training!) so he doesn't want to get them til closer to the wedding.
When I get paid on Friday I will be looking to buy my veil, candles and candlesticks and charger plates for the tables. I'm actually quite excited! Oh and if I can definitely decide on my shoes I'll be buying those too. Woo!
Glad to hear that you got a lot of things done. What do you
need left to do to finish them off? Glad to hear that you got the hotels
sorted.
Hope everything goes well on the Friday; let us know how it
goes?
I thought us women were bad with the weight loss but i guess
weddings put everyone in the position where they want to be a better version of
themselves. Not going to lie, the stress diet (basically just being stressed
all the time!) is the best diet I’ve ever had but would rather not keep to this
one, can’t wait to not be stressed with thinking about weddings.
What shoes are you looking at getting? Also Yey for buying
more centrepieces and veil! Flash the veil? Hehehe!!
Hope everyone else is ok ??

Hello my fellow Octoberians ?
I always lose track on here ha ha, I'm just going to select a few posts that stood out as I was going through!
Rebecca - You do not need 6 inches off your hair, your hairdresser sounds crazy! 6 inches would take it to your chin! I have very long straight hair which I could never ever curl until I bought one of those wands. That's the only thing that will curl my hair and it does stay in all day. I'd get a second opinion if I were you
Lui - my goodness you're on fire girl! I keep thinking I'm on top of stuff then I realise I'm really not and really need to get my ass in gear ha ha!
who was the lady stressing over her flowers last week - did you get anything sorted?
I went to pick up my centrepieces at the weekend - 12 wrought iron candelabras, 2 feet tall! Had my poor dad driving all over the countryside to find the place! Only catch is I'll need to have them sand blasted and painted but at least I'll make my money back off them after the wedding.
Steph- your centrepieces sound gorgeous! I think I'm going to have candelabras too, but I'll be hiring mine.
I've had a fairly productive morning. I've finally ordered a bag! I've been umming and ahhing over what style I want, and today I just bit the bullet. I can't wait for it to come; hopefully it's like the pictures. I've also ordered something for the top table, as I decided a top table arrangement is too expensive. I found some beautiful calla lily candles (just over a £1 per candle), so cheap and cheerful, and I'll have them on a dish instead of flowers And I've pretty much sorted all the thank you gifts now.
Yesterday I ordered my chocolate fountain for the reception, and helped organise my BM's flights over. And I had another RSVP! And we booked the hen party! So all is wonderful in the Home Counties
Next thing on the list is to sort a veil. I have an idea of what I'd like, but I'm worried that it'll look a little silly.
Stephied – Thanks lovely, although now in my head, I have a
mix of the Alisha Keys song and the hunger games bloke that Stanley Tuttchi
plays hahah! Your centre pieces do sound wonderful and I think you will definitely
make your money back if not more as I know they are something that’s pretty
popular with weddings.
Thefuturemrskay – Someone does have to send the taxis this
is true! Ohhh what did you decide on the thank you gifts? I’ve sorted all of
mine just need to print part of the bridesmaids and get some extra stuff for
the flower girls.
Where are you going on your Hen do or are you ladies keeping
it quiet from you? You should try going
into a bridal shop and trying someone before you buy them. I know LMP got a beautiful
veil online, I think she flashed it a few posts back and mentioned where she
got it from so if you don’t want a super expensive one you can try the same
place.
I’ve finished all my day invites, stamping my evening
invites, really excited to have them and want to send them out but I think h2b
will not be impressed if they go out before 6 months, considering I sent the
STD’s like 14 months before the wedding.
Stephied - I think it was me that was stressing about flowers! Got an appointment with someone tomorrow so hopefully can get that sorted. Your centrepieces sound great, bet they will look stunning.
Futuremrskay - you've definitely had a productive few days then, well done! Re your veil, I would just try to do as much research as possible. I feel a little silly in mine tbh, my taste in clothes is quite plain so I'm hoping when it all comes together on the day I'll feel better about it
Lui - ha ha, it's in my head now too, sorry about that! ? well done on finishing your invites, a lot of blood sweat and tears by the sounds of it! Have you flashed them already?
Annamolly - ah best of luck sweetie, I'll have my fingers crossed for you
Alot of designing, cutting and sticking, wax stamping and
writing. H2B believes that as I have the nicer hand writing its better if I
write them hahah! So I’ve ended up doing most of them. He does put the pocket folds
together for me, and glue some stuff in hahah.
Hi all, its lovely to see everyones plans coming along. I have had a text today off a very close friend inviting me to her wedding on the 19th April. She has been battling cancer for the past year and was told on wednesday there was nothing else they could do for her, it has returned and she has a few months left. she's 32. She is marrying her partner of 15 years and has a 3 yr old son. How on earth do you prepare for that?
luckily my OH is a photographer so at least we can do her photos as a gift.
Sorry, such a depressing post, and theres me worrying about how my centrepieces will look, it sort of puts everything into perspective.
live each day girls you never know whats round the corner, one positive thing tho, its made us look into booking our once in a lifetime honeymoon. life too short!

Ah Lui I must have missed those! They are fabulous! I love the wax seal, really original and love the colours too. Definitely worth the toil my love! ❤️
Mrs FRtobe - you are most definitely right - sometimes it takes a little thing like that to remind us of what is truly important xx sounds like it'll be a very emotional day
MrsFRtobe- I bet that will be a really emotional day for all involved. I'm sure that they will have the most perfect day, and that you enjoy it with them.
Lui- I tried a veil on in my bridal shop and it was £96 for a plain one! The one that I want (I think) is 2 tier with either a scalloped edge of souchante, with pearl droplets. I can get it made, but I can't see before I buy. So it's just whether I take the plunge, or just go with something more generic.
Thank you gifts- BM1- jewellery for the day, perfume, photoframe, wine
BM2- jewellery for the day, perfume, engraved compact mirror, wine
MOH- jewellery for the day, MOH charm for her bracelet, a Body Shop made day after pamper kit, a photo album that I will fill with wedding pictures for her
FOB- engraved hip flask filled with whisky
MOB- scrapbook with all my baby pictures and pictures of me up to now, with space for wedding pictures (in the messy divorce, my mum got none of the pictures from my dad, so she won't have seen them for years; he let me borrow them), a USB with all the baby pictures of me and my siblings, wine, chocolates, a Body Shop pamper basket, an engraved compact mirror, and a frame for her favourite picture.
MOG- scrapbook/photo album and voucher for getting photos developed
BM- Engraved glass tankard with £5 inside for a drink
We're also going to thank the woman who introduced us to one another in the speeches and give her a bottle of wine.
Now that I list it, it seems quite a lot!
I helped to plan my hen party; mostly because my MOH is a darling, but very scatty and needs prompting and pushing. We're going to Bistro Live in Milton Keynes for a night of food and dancing, and then the next morning we're going to Bounce (a huge indoor trampoline park)! And then the bridal party are going for dress fittings and an evening of takeaway and wedding DIY bits (basically, I'll make them work, haha). But I've stepped back from it now. The main bits have been organised, so MOH can take over now.
Thefuturemrskay –Ah least you know what you would like which
is the main thing, shame you can’t see before you buy. Is there no other bridal
shops in the area that may have something the same? Friends? I completely get
that it’s a big thing to just go ahead and spend what could be a lot of money
on something that you may not like!!
Sounds like you have some awesome gifts for your guests J they
are going to love them! It does sound like a lot of people but at the end of
the day they have helped you and you want to thank them and that’s all that
matters.
I brought my BM’s a glass from etsy that’s hand made and
decorated saying “its Gin O’clock”, a small bottle of Hendricks Gin each and a
Gin print.... it’s a common theme with us all so I thought why not!! Hehe
MOB has a wooden plaque that has a thank you and a photo of
us from my first Holy Communion, as most of my baby photos my brother made his way
into hahah!
MOG has a champagne flute with the day and her name and
mother of the groom engraved on it.
I want to get my brothers girlfriend something as she has
done alot with me as apart from you ladies a lot of my wedding is unknown to
people so it’s a surprise.
Your hen do sounds fantastic!! I’m with you with getting them
DIYing hahah I’ve already forced my bridesmaids into a role of making paper
flowers hahah. I paid them in tea and many many many biscuits!!?
I’m having 2 hen do’s now (greedy me!) one is in June with
my friend and brothers girlfriend as they cant make the main hen do for medical
and holiday reasons so they are doing something with me.... god knows what
though!! Haha Then with the rest of the ladies I’m off to Newquay to
boardmasters festival in august, alot of bands, camping and dancing while on
the beach! ?
I might try to call other bridal shops to see if they have anything similar that I can look at. I'm pretty young, so I'm the first of all my friends to be engaged, let alone thinking of getting married. So whilst it's very exciting, they can't help too much with the veil situation, haha. I've been talking to a woman that I found on FB who makes veils, and she seems to know exactly what I want. I just have that good feeling when I talk to her, so I think I'll risk it and ask her to make it.
They're such lovely gifts I have a lot to thank them for. MOH is doing the bridal party hair, my mum is making the cake/collecting all the parcels in the run up/countless other things, and one of my BMs is coming all the way from Sweden. I guess I'm trying to show them that I appreciate it.
I'll probably set my mum to tea duty whilst we work (she's a feeder, and loves to provide tea and biscuits).
I sort of get 2 hens too, which is pretty cool. Me and the girls are staying in the hall the night before the wedding, and they are giving us a conference room for the evening! In there we're going to have a slumber party! Everyone is to come in onesies; there will be a foot spa, 2 gel nail sets, bean bags, music, a projector for dvds. I'm going to buy loads of soft drinks, popcorn, crisps, etc. and then we're going to order pizza. I'm going to invite some of my friends who live locally too. I just think it'll be a fun, girlly last night
Thefuturemrskay – good plan! I keep forgetting that you’re
not so young but younger than myself as it doesn’t seem it! Just wait though;
they will be coming to you to help them when it’s their turn! Definitely go with your gut feeling. If she
gives you a good feeling then least it makes you feel better when taking the
plunge!
Thanks lovely!! Yours are lovely too and they will love them..!
I know what you mean, I mean I know our friends and family and know that we
appreciate all the help we are given by them!
Mums are good at that!! I made the boys do that too as H2B
had his best friend up.
Ohhhh nice, that will be a nice way to just chill the night
before the wedding too ???
It seems like I'm away for a few days and loads of stuff has happened!!!
MrsFRtobe - so sorry to hear about your friend but great that she is able to celebrate her marriage still! Seeing this has made me reflect on making sure I make the most of the special moments, even those that may seem insignificant!
The FutureMrsKay - wow for your bridal party gifts! I am really stuck with what to get and who for! We know what we want to get our best couple and it's really different (my OH chose it) - I love it! As for MOH, and my BM, I'm not sure what to get them - not sure if I want to go for the traditional jewelery. Also, I know it is traditional to get something for the MOB and MIL, and possibly FOB and FIL, but is that just when they have contributed to the wedding? We don't want to leave them out per-say, especially not the MIL as she has made the cake, but also don't want to get things for the sake of getting them. Any suggestions?
It's great hearing about everyone's hen dos! I have kinda left it to my BMs and have said the sort of things I would like, the things I definitely don't want and the sort of money I would be happy in people spending. I also created a Facebook page for it, invited those I wanted there, and then left when most had responded. It feels weird as I am so used to being in control but I think they know me well enough to sort out something amazing!
A question for you all, who has booked their MUA and hair? I would like to have a trial fairly soon to make sure I have a good idea of what I want and that I am happy with what they suggest and do. However, one has said that they normally only do it 8-10 weeks before the wedding...what if I don't like it? Trying to book one that close if I don't like it would be tricky but likewise, I don't want to spend loads of money on having several trials! What do I do?
Anywho, I am seeing my BMs on Saturday and they are trying on their dresses for the first time, and I am hoping to buy my shoes (expensive but so pretty - and I can dye them and wear them again!). Then hopefully lunch and a spot of shopping for other bits!
In other news, by OH and the BM from the best couple are going suit shopping on the 18th - exciting! I know they want morning and evening suits, canes, top hats and monacles...interesting!!!

Futuremrskay - that night before the wedding party sounds so much fun! I want one too ha ha! I'll just be in our bridal suite with mum, maybe she'll be up for a few laughs ha ha....!
Cat - I have booked two MUAs, one for me and one for all my BMs and mum. I originally only had one, but started worrying she may run out of time with 5 other people to do. Also, didn't realise my trial wasn't included in the £400 package, so got my local MUA roped in for everyone else. It actually works out cheaper for me that way too, bizarrely! I've booked my trial for 2nd week in September, I thought it would be best to have it closer to the time?
