Just a little update for those who read my message about attending my friends wedding, we had a lovely day yesterday, obviously very emotional but beautiful. Its amazing what can be organised in a weeks notice, (the registrar wavered the 28days notice as its unlikely she will make it that long) The venue went above and beyond their duty. My friend looked beautiful and I will remember the speeches forever.
we still managed to party and enjoy ourselves.
it really makes you remember the reason for marrying, wonky centrepieces are really not that important.
Lui- I'm so sorry to hear about your granddad. It's no consolation, but maybe you could Skype with him after, and give him some wedding videos. He probably wanted to be there just as much as you wanted him there.
Mrs FRtobe- I'm so glad that your friend had a lovely day. It really puts it all into perspective; the flowers and the decorations don't really matter on the day, so long as you're marrying the one you love. I wish her a very happy marriage
I hope everyone is ok I haven't done anything wedding related for a little while; it's had to take a back burner. I'm trying to finish my dissertation, and it's making me crazy. I'll be so glad when it's done and then I can do more wedding stuff!
Glad to hear it was a lovely day MrsFRtobe, I can imagine how emotional it must have been. You are so right about remembering the real reason for marrying, the little things really aren't that important.
Lui - sorry to hear about your Grandad. I have the same worries about my Grandparents. My nan was too ill to attend my brothers wedding and I would be absolutely gutted if she couldn't make it to mine.
Thanks ladies, it was very out the blue so I wasn’t in a
great mood this weekend. However H2B has a fab idea of me and dad popping in
before heading to the venue so I can see him and he can see me and we can grab
a few photos with the tog.
MrsFRtobe- I’m glad to hear that your friend had a lovely
day! It does put everything into perspective and I did think on Saturday that I
hope she had a lovely day!
Lui - Very sorry to hear about your Grandad - I can understand your feeling upset. Is there anyway someone could create a video link on the day so he can join in remotely?
MrsFRtobe - I'm glad that your friends wedding went well and that whilst understandably emotional everyone enjoyed the day. You are right that it makes you realise what is important
Had a great trip to our venue today - left loving it even more than before.
Chose the colour of the chair sashes (royal blue organza), found out when we could get in to set up the table decorations (the afternoon before :-) ), worked out all the timings and found out details like who is in charge of playing the ceremony music etc.
Also found out that they are including a couple of things in the package that we weren't expecting - a milk chocolate fountain in the evening and Welsh cake favours on each table.
We also chose our menu and are going back on Monday lunchtime for a tasting :-) Opted for Leek & Potato soup with Welsh Rarebit, Roast Beef and Lemon Tarte - plus they are including a sorbet course between the starter and main. Veggie main will be spinach & ricotta cannelloni.
Also today got a quote back from the cake maker for our cake which was very good so feeling very pleased.
Mrswatkinstobe
– Sounds like the venue is pretty sorted and wow, can I come as it sounds
awesome and the food sounds amazing! I like the sorbet idea, cleanses peoples pallets.
It’s
nice that the venue has placed the favours on there for you which does mean you
do have less to worry about now in case you were going to do favours!
Hope
everyone else is good! We started handed out our invites slowly this week, only
given them to family so far. So hasn’t had the excitement of someone RSVPing
yet. I’ve put our wedding email address on my phone now so just going to send
the others next week, then a talk with our venue the week after to meet the
celebrants!
I
have another hair trial this week as looking at the bridesmaid’s hair, I wasn’t
happy so have picked another style to try and because my hair is a bit fine I
need to go back with freshly washed and not straightened hair. (if you can
imagine the most uncontrollable hair that’s everywhere – that’s what you get
when i just wash it and don’t straighten it.)?
Tomorrows
my birthday so i’m taking a step away from wedding planning and dieting and
eating all the cake i want and all the food i love! Probably will go for a
massive run at the weekend to compensate but right now tomorrow is a cake and
curry day! Hahaha! ?
Love catching up on all the planning, Can you guys believe we are only 6 months away!!! EEKKK
Well today we managed to get another thing checked off the list we took a trip into town and took advantage of the Greenwoods 50% off sale and got my H2B his suit, shoes, tie & Shirt a bloody bargain should have cost us £303.00 and ended up costing £151.50 bloody bargain
H2B
started eyeing up suits this weekend but has decided to still wait until
August.
I’m
still the 6 months and 1 week away! Booo! Heheh I know it’s all the same month
but isn’t it strange how some people are showing as 5 months and x amount of
weeks and we are still in 6. Hehe!
Lui- Oh I am so happy especially after the shock of the price of catering we had a couple of weeks ago ( We are tied into 2 caterers and its costing us double what we anticipated) we have been trying to save as much money as we can from different places.
Something I am currently thinking of not bothering with is buying wine for the tables and just buying a couple of bottles of champs for the toast, I know it may sound a little cheap to some people but wine for 5 tables is £250.00 and most of out guest only drink stouts and ciders anyway so I have a feeling it will be a waste of money.
What do you guys think?
EEeeeeeekkkk my shoes literally just arrived at my door! they are stunning! another bargain from BHS online got 30% off so they only cost me £31.90 inc delivery. They fit perfectly and look stunning on
Hope your all having a good week I've started receiving RSVP's back now and it is SO exciting!! So far everyone has bought lovely RSVP cards and sent back the little slips that took f-o-r-e-v-e-r to make so I'm really chuffed ? My flower lady is coming over on Saturday to show me what she has made so far and am going to view my evening venue again in a few weeks with one of my mums friends, she's going to make us a wall drape ... so much cheaper than hiring one. I have also (finally) found tablecloths! It's going to set me back £160 but at this point I just want to know it's all sorted.
So that's one drama out of the way, naturally I end up in another I had a make-up trial in January with the beautician who's been doing my treatments for about 2 years, and I loved it. My OH said that I looked beautiful, and I didn't feel clogged down or fake. She went on maternity leave at the end of February, and promised that she would be in touch so that she could arrange another make-up trial but also a hair trial with the hairdresser that she was going to arrange for me (apparently a lot of her friends are hairdressers). So I bought her a little baby present and a card, wishing her luck and saying I looked forward to seeing them both. I also popped my phone number in there as well as I couldn't remember if she had it or not. I haven't heard from her since =/ I now have 5 months 1 week and 4 days to go and I have no MUA or hairdresser. Freaking out now.
Anyway...
AlmostMrsS - Your shoes are lovely, what a bargain! Sounds like your OH got an absolute bargain with his outfit as well, your doing well I'm probably the wrong person to ask about drinks tbh. I'm not providing any wine for the tables, and our welcome drinks are orange juice with lemonade or fizzy apple juice, which will be topped up for the toasts. Not many people in my family will drink at 2pm plus a lot of them will have to drive from the meal venue to the evening reception venue. So I personally don't see anything wrong with what you are suggesting
Lui - Hope you had a nice birthday ? I'm really sorry to hear about your grandad sweetie I think its lovely that you'll be able to go and see him on the wedding of your wedding though, and still get some pictures with him I know where I'm getting married they have a webcam facility so anyone who can't make it can still watch us get married, is that something you could look into as well? That's what I may have to do, I don't know if my grandad will make it to my wedding, the treatment has really hit him hard :'( Ooh let us know how the second hair trial goes...
MrsFRtobe - I'm really glad your friend had a lovely day, I hope it was perfect for her and her husband. It really does make you remember the important things in life. Sending you some weird Internet hugs xx
MrsWatkinsToBe - That's excellent that you love your venue even more now Sounds like its all coming together nicely for you now, and double yay for the chocolate fountain and favours!
Ooh .... my 400th post. How exciting! I really must do more work ?
I'm afraid to say I have hit another wedding planning slump. I need to sort out the invitations but I just can't be bothered. I bought some skeleton leaves for them the other day in the hope it would provide motivation but no
I've gone and booked a holiday instead, oops. No where fancy, but I'm quite looking forward to going away for a week.
Just kind of wish we were getting married sooner, I would never spend so long planning anything else!
how are you all? Sorry I haven't been around much; it hit the 6 month mark to our wedding a few weeks ago and I totally fell out of love with anything wedding related because I didn't have a job, and it's been stressing me out so much so I couldn't think about the wedding without worrying about money.
However; I can now report that I have a brand sparkly new job!!! It's taken me 9 weeks to find it, it's has been the most horrible 9 weeks ever, but I finally can sleep at night and I feel so relieved that I can stop worrying!
I am very excited about it, it's an amazing job, I am still in shock a little that I got offered it and I start in 2 weeks! I went in yesterday for an induction/handover from the existing lady that is leaving and it was awesome! It's stilll within my field but is more specific to what I like doing!
i feel like I have missed so much with you girls, so I shall have a proper read of the posts over the next day or two so that I can catch up!
Sorry to hear you've hit a wedding slump AnnaMolly, it happened to me too (funnily enough it was when I was having problems with my invites as well!). Maybe set a date that you'll go back to it and have the time in between as time off. We can't be wedding planning machines after all, we all need a break. Where are you going on holiday...?
Yay Sparkly Bear has a new sparkly job ? I'm so pleased for you, congratulations and fingers crossed it all goes well on your first day!
Almostmrss - Love the shoes they are so cute and delicate! We
are not buying wine for the table, we are having tequila sunrises as our drink,
but the plan is to have the jucies on the table and then people come round with
vodka and then offer the vodka to people if they wish to have it.
This is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than wine because
you can get more out of the vodka bottle then you can a wine bottle.
LMP – glad you got your table cloth sorted! Does this take
like a massive weight off you? I can just imagine you dancing around in joy
because of it hehe!
Oh no thats not good about the MUA and hair dresser. Have
you contacted her at all? Maybe just a cheeky little text to make sure shes ok
and that the baby is well and then pop in something like can’t wait to catch up
with you when your back ect. I dunno I never think im subtle so wouldn’t know
if that’s the way to go hahah! Your almost inside the 4 month mark now!! I’m
freaking out for you haha and im not even inside the 6 month mark! Ha!
Thank you for the birthday wishes, was nice to just forget
everything and just be normal for once, no wedding, no worry or stress!
How is your granddads treatment going? Is it working? I hope
its working? I would look at the streaming idea, the only probably is he doesn’t
speak 2 words of English and trying to get him to use a computer would involve
my brother having to be there and not at the wedding. We are just going to show him the videos
after and try and get round there on the day before I go to the venue.
Annamolly – I am with you, I’m thinking the exact same, why
did we book it so far away, kind of want it to be here now! Everyone else
friend wise is getting married this month or the next few months and im like
whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy did we wait. But then I think money wise, I don’t think
I would have been able to save the amount I have in a smaller time frame with everything
that went wrong and I’ve had to pay out for. Our time will come lovely!!
Where did you book your holiday too? Is it somewhere nice?
Sparklybear – Hiya lovely!! So glad to hear that you got a
joba and its awesome!! So happy for you as i know you were stressing alot!! Bet
you can just get back to doing things normally and not worrying if you can
cover stuff and having to borrow!! WOOOOOOOO!!
MrsFRtoBe – YEY 6 months!!!
So I had my second hair trial and we tried something
different on mine and with the bridesmaids! So last time my plait wasn’t great
and everything looked a bit bleugh after I’d taken a look at it outside of yey
hair time.
Heres a few flashes from the new time, I had to have my hair
freshly washed and not straightened (as you may be able to see its really big
when not straightened which has really helped with the hair this time). I’ll
have the fly away bits smoothed down by I’m a lot happier with it all now.
New Bridesmaid hair which i'm more than happy with.
Morning ladies Hope you all are having the lovely sunshine that I'll be enjoying once I leave work! Is it just me or is October suddenly seeming very very close?? It's 5 months for me & Sparkly Bear on Sunday 3rd May ?
Glad you had a nice birthday Lui Isn't it lovely to forget all the wedding stress for a day?
My grandad's treatment is going ok thank you for asking He's on his last lot of chemo before his 2 ops, and then its 3 more months of chemo afterwards. Ah I'm sorry the streaming idea wouldn't work Hopefully you'll be able to see him the morning of your wedding and get some pictures, and at least your having it all filmed so he can watch it. I know it's not the same thou...
I'm not ashamed to admit that I did do a happy dance when I finally booked someone who'd hire out tablecloths! Problem I was having was that all the other companies wouldn't hire out tablecloths unless I hired chair covers as well, but the chairs at our evening venue are nice and don't need covering. Anyway it's done now and poof goes £160 ... ouch ...
I don't actually have the MUA's telephone number, we were supposed to swap details at my last appointment before her maternity leave but because she was 7 weeks early that last appointment never happened. I did buy her a little present for the baby with a card, and I did pop my mobile number in there, but I've not heard anything, not even a thank you. The salon did tell me that they'd passed the gift onto her on 5th March, so I think I've waited long enough! I have got a hair and make-up trial on Monday 4th May at a salon and I'm really nervous I'm really hoping I'll love what they do as they've offered me a really great deal... For £360 they've offered myself, 2 bridesmaids and my mum a champagne arrival with a complimentary breakfast, a relaxing foot massage and a mini prep facial followed by hair and make up. They'll also steam/press our outfits and help us get dressed, before helping us into the cars. We literally just have to turn up in our pj's! My TOG is allowed to be with us and the salon is so pretty it'll make a lovely back drop for photos. So I'm hoping and praying that the trial goes well!!
Love the pictures from your second trial btw, really really pretty
Wow Lui your hair looks bloody fantastic! Love the bridesmaids hair too.
I'm only going to Cornwall for my holiday. Booked up a lovely little self catering cottage. It will be nice to just go to the beaches with the kids. I also want to go to the Eden project as I've not been before.
Sparkly Bear - congratulations on your new job. What a huge weight lifted from your shoulders!
Yay MrsFRtobe, 6 months! It's going to fly by I'm sure!
I've been out to hobbycraft this morning to pick up some bits for a mock up invitation. If it works I'll get all the card online as its so much cheaper than hobbycraft! So this evening when the kids are in bed, I'll crack open a can of gin and tonic (I'm classy me ) and try and get something done!
My dissertation is due tomorrow; I wasn't supposed to do any wedding stuff the past few weeks, but I wished to procrastinate. Not my finest idea.
I have now sorted: my tiara, bridesmaid hair pieces, a clutch bag, a veil (almost, just waiting on a quote), stickers for wine glasses/coat hangers (for dresses), pashmina basket, a signed congratulations card from Ipswich FC first team and manager (for the OH), blankets, sparklers and vase, top table decoration and groomsman gifts. We've also made a draft seating plan, which I'm actually pretty happy with.
So glad this dissertation is submitted tomorrow. Then I can throw myself back into the wedding planning!
We went to our venue on sat to choose food/drink and plan the running of the day! it seems so real now! Ive also been shopping with my mum and got bridesmaids shrugs and a few bits. She's a star and is busy making all our invitations.
we are due to exchange on our new house today so hopefully move in mid may. Ive said I'm having a holiday after to chill for a week before wedding planning steps up a gear again!
im also wondering, has anyone bought artificial flowers from country baskets? whats the quality like? I have 2 large milk churns to fill with flowers and real ones will cost a fortune....abit like this...any ideas ladies?
Hope everyone's planning is coming along. I can see many of you have been really busy
I've had a busy couple of weeks. My mum was in hospital after having a heart attack (she's home again for now, awaiting follow up for more treatment)
Had my first dress fitting yesterday (dress comes in half made to fit me into it then goes off again to be finished) Needs a bit taking in, but that's all good
Handed out the invites today
Ordered my veil
I think that really is the last few jobs for now. Am ready for my holiday, go away a week on Saturday (all being well with my mum), so am kinda looking forward to that!
does anyone else feel in limbo with the planning... kinda like at this stage where I want to be doing wedding related things, but I don't have anything to do, and then I worry there is something I should be doing but am missing! lol
AnnaMolly - Ooh I love Cornwall, it's such a nice place to just relax and chill out. I've never been to The Eden Project either but my cousin told me it's really good There's nothing wrong with a can of gin & tonic :p How'd your mock up invitation go?
TheFutureMrsKay - My goodness you've been busy!! You actually put me to shame, and made me realise I seriously need to get my butt in gear... Get that dissertation all done and dusted with and then that's one less thing for you to worry about
MrsFRtobe - Aw sounds like you had a nice day at your venue on Saturday That's nice that your mum is making your invitations for you. Hope that your house goes through ok, definitely think you deserve a week off after you move! I haven't personally bought anything from Country Basket, but I did buy some lovely fake flowers from Ikea of all places... http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90258694/ Not sure if that helps at all
Rebeccafcr - Sorry to hear your mum has been so poorly, really hope she feels better soon Glad your first dress fitting went ok and yay for buying your veil & handing out invites I know what you mean about being in planning limbo I didn't think I had anything to do but wanted to be doing stuff then suddenly found loads to do!!
It was so nice to forget about everything and just do normal
unworried things!! Glad your granddad’s treatment is going well. It’s a shame
he won’t be at your wedding either but least the streaming thing will help ?
I know but I’m starting to look at it like he’ll be able to
see it and we can see it together afterwards.
Hahaha the happy dance is fun! I did that at the end of the
invite creations! Just think its £160 gone but the stress and worry has also
gone with it! £160 is nothing compared to that going.
Eep thats a shame that she hasn’t contacted you but at least
you can go next week and see what will happen incase she isn’t there, plus even
though its 5 months (EEP) it’s still time for the salon to put something in
place if she doesn’t come back in time, its better asking the questions now than
a month before and scrambling to find someone to do it for you. The package you
have sounds really good! I hope
everything does work out fine and its more stress that we are just worrying
ourselves with because as we all seem to do, is look at the back instead of the
good!
You should flash when it’s done ?. Also thank you, I’m
so much happier with the second trial!
AnnaMolly – Thanks you lovely!
Love Cornwall!! Anything is a nice break away! When are you
going? I haven’t been to the Eden project either but I’ve heard its good there!
YEY for gin, gin makes everything better!! Hehe! Hope the
invites went well and you’re happy with them.
Thefuturemrskay – Good luck handing in your dissertation, I
remember handing in mine and it was so scary! Trying to get it bound and given
in, before the time haha! Sounds like you’ve had a really productive weekend!
Hope everything goes well for you.
MrsFRtobe – Yey for sorting everything out! Woop! Have you
booked in a tasting yet? Although do you get them if you’re picking from a set
menu? Hope your house exchange goes well and the move goes well ?
Yey for your mum doping your invites too!!
Have you tried maybe ebay or on the sale section of the
forum?
Rebeccafcr – hope your mum is ok lovely and she keeps
getting better! You excited that now
your invites have gone out? Where are you off on holiday lovely?
I feel exactly the same, I don’t have much to do but it does
feel like I should have loads to do! Im not sure what to do with myself.
That sounds like a lovely time, very jealous! I’m not going
anywhere until the Honeymoon and god knows where we are going as I don’t have
one booked.
Even though you’re parents aren’t there just rest and chill
as when you come back it will heading not panic wedding mode where you will
start remember things and trying to get them done last minute. Hope your mum
gets a good rest while everyone is on holiday!!
Yea not sure what to do now, i think i have centre pieces
but h2b wants to try something so im really just waiting on him.
Everyone will know she has to get better so they will get her to her treatment and if not tell them that you want to hear all about it when your back and you know what it's like so they can't lie about it! (Although they will know how important it is so will go!)
i I used to work in travel so I used to be like that but changed 4 years ago and now I miss all the holiday perks ahahah ?
Lui- we decided on a BBQ with locally sourced meats etc with fancy salads etc, it'll be lovely if it sunny, if it rains the staff bring it all inside, (its cooked on a covered terrace overlooking the dales) I just can't have any tomato sauce with my burger
we have eaten there a few time and taken my parents so we know the food is fabulous.
we've also just had the invoice through and its cheaper than expected so my dads happy
Dissertation is all done and dusted. I can't stop smiling; it's wine time now though
Thanks for all your encouragement with it.
This holiday talk is lovely! Cornwall is one of my favourite places; used to go there about 3 times a year in my dad's campervan when I was younger; you'll love the Eden project. It's a fun day out.
I love Fuerteventura! It's where we got engaged, the day before my 21st birthday (he didn't want to be a cliché)! It's such a beautiful island, and it'll definitely always be special to me now.
I'm away on my holidays soon too! Beginning of June for 10 nights in Portugal; I'm so excited. I just need a break. It seems really strange; I booked this holiday to Portugal before we were even engaged, and now it's here! Soon it'll be the wedding!
Well done on the dissertation TheFutureMrsKay! I remember handing in mine, biggest relief ever! Definitely wine o'clock ???
I think I've finally sorted the invitations. I've ordered some pocket fold samples to test but hopefully they should be ok, I'm running out of time! Also ordered a personalised wax seal to go on the outside but don't know how that will work out. It probably looks easier than it is!
