It might be battie boy? Anyway, do you consider this an offensive term?

    Oh yes!

Particularly given it's cultural background - and the systematic persecution of gays (and lesbians) in the regions where it is used.

yes, me too. So if your inbred fuckwit of a BIL referred to your husband as one in his weddin speech in FRONT OF A WHOLE room (amongst other offensive things, including telling everyone mrH loves to take things which do not belong to him and has made a career out of "making people believe he can look after their money" you'd be a bit pissed right?

I'd be really pissed off that the other stuff, but the Batty Boy reference shows a level of ignorance that isn't really measurable without deep mining equipment.

What a twat. And how publicly exhibited. What was the audience reaction?

Nearly everyone has said they thought it was well below the belt and that also, the rest of their table were giving each other “shiteee!” looks- we only had 6 tables so when we take into account the number of people who have said that to me, its everyone. My sister particularly was offended by the batty boy comment, as possibly was our camp ad wonderful wedding coordinator who also had to endure being refereed to as a “woofter” the day before by MIL (I don’t; think he heard this) but the rest of the staff also had to endure being called thieves by Fil when he lost his camera at the end of the night.

It really was a wonderful day (NN can attest to how blissfully happy I was!) but as usual they have fucked the aftermath (I’d even tried to forget about the batty boy business)

they've gone now. apparently, despite the fact me, mrH and all the guests pretty much thought he came across as a nasty peice of work, we've all misunderstood and hes an angel who called his mum crying (hes 31) Mum called Mrh to shout at him. i want to kill. The reason I had to ask about batty boy is my sister was offended, as I was, but considering the rest of the speech it went in the "think about later" drawer- but mrh wasn;t sure about how bad that was and that it could be taken "in banter"

I think it could be taking in banter, but given the rest of the context, well, I doubt he's seeing the line
