Oh dear - Kirstie Foster and txt spk

SophieM, 1 of September of 2008 at 15:58 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

Sorry if this is inappropriate, but you can just tell that the Beeb writer didn't know whether to laugh or cry when writing this.

"Friends of [Kirstie's] have been leaving messages on her [Bebo] page.

One friend, Chloe, wrote: "I can't belive that one of the bodys was your mam. RIP Jill Foster. I hope that the other body isnt your dad.

"An I hope they dont find any mor an your just havin a week somewer with your dad or sumink."

Another friend, Danielle, referred to Kirstie's horses - Scrumpy Jack, Breezy and Bramble - which were found dead in the outbuildings of the mansion.

She wrote: "I miss you soo much. My thorts are with you 24/7 and there are some points in the day i just wanna break down and cry.

"Life feels weird without you. Please be okay, otherwise I dunno wat ill doo. RIP Jill and Jack and Breezy and Bramble."

Her friend George wrote: "Plz b ok kirstie. We r all thinkin bowt u."

I read that report earlier and had exactly the same thoughts about the hideous txt spk and spelling, so if you are being inappropriate then so am I. Somehow the sincerity with which the messages were conceived has been lost.

    ? that's exactly what I thought too.

    Oh, absolutely.

And spot on Taz - there is a little something lost there.

Marsie sticks her hand up as another one who is going to burn in hell for such inappropriate thoughts about money, private education and literacy.

I thought the same ? saw it on the internet at lunchtime and wondered if there'd be a thread about it on here!

Goes without saying, terrible tragic situation for all involved though.

I'm in. Penny for the guy anyone?

Totally agree with Taz though - in the context of a Facebook/Bebo profile, txt spk is the norm for a lot of the younger generation. When taken out of their original context, and put into a BBC news article, much of the meaning is lost in translation.

Better put me on the bonfire too. My son is a teenager and I loathe txt spk, but a lot of his friends seem to use it.

I read it this afternoon too and immediately thought of here. I ended up cringing.

It would surely have been better for the reporter to either "translate" it into english or just to have a had a screenshot of the page.
