Old, New, borrowed, blue

RomanticEmeralds, 3 October, 2015 at 16:35 Posted on Planning 0 20

Old, New, borrowed, blue -anyone doing this? OMs a what did you do? I'd like to follow the tradition but would like some inspiration. I have plenty for new e.g dress, shoes, underwear, hair accessories ... can probably sort out borrowed (my sister's garter) but stuck on old and blue. The old family jewellery we have doesn't really go and isn't my style. Any ideas girls? Xx

I've seen brides with pastel blue nailpolish, not sure if it's my thing yet but kinda cool! You could always just do your toe nails as well. When I bought my dress the shop lady gave me a blue garter as a gift, so I might use that. She also said that Rainbow Club shoes all have a tiny blue gemstone glued to the bottom, so on the off chance you have a pair of their shoes you've already got the blue sorted out for you! ?

Not sure about old either! I was thinking of having a little locket on my bouquet with a picture of my grandmother, who cannot travel abroad for our wedding. She's old! ?

New was easy. Borrowed I have an old lace edged hanky off FMIL, old I have my old adjustable christening bracelet and hope to push it up the handle of my flowers, blue I struggled and being as marrying in Lapland I'm having my nails done in sparkly polish with snowflakes and having little finger non ring hand in blue sparkly . If that doesn't work in having blue toenails. Before that I considered blue heart sewn into bodice of dress. I'm not wearing a garter with snowboots and thermal long johns!

Haha that would make for a pretty cool picture though! One of my bridesmaids had a very informal, fun little ceremony in her living room and her groom took off her garter over her big woolly socks! The most hilarious thing I've ever seen.

I've seen photos of people who have their ring finger nail painted blue. Quite like the idea but think it will look strange as my dress is going to be customised with a dark green corset ribbon and gemstones to match my BM dress. Think my sister's garter has a blue ribbon on it but I think using one item for borrowed and blue is cheating a bit lol

Can a silver sixpence in your shoe be something old? Is it even comfy?

    Borrowed - Mum's pearls

    Mines the following:

    Something old: Pearl bracelets

    Something new: The dress

    Something borrowed: The veil

    Something blue: Garter

Something old was the only one I had trouble with as my parents wanted me to wear a necklace but with a high neck dress I would be too uncomfortable with it.

    Mine were:

    - something old: a vintage necklace I bought

    - something new: the dress

    - something borrowed: a ring that my mum let me borrow

    - something blue: the garter

Im sure you could have one item overlong several of these categories though!

I'm not too far along in my planning, so the only thing I've figured out is the blue. It seems to be quite popular in my area to do blue shoes (and it makes for a great photo). I've had my eye out for a pair of these on Ebay since a lot of people only wear them on their wedding day and then resell them.

I'm struggling with this too, I have:

    Old: no idea

New: dress/shoes (you can get blue sparkly 'I Do' stickers for the bottom of your shoes)

Borrowed: no idea - possibly a bracelet from my Mum

Blue: the stone in my engagement ring is blue, and my Mum has managed to find me matching earrings!

Love the tie pin in the bouquet - that's given me an idea!

    Old - No idea

    New - dress, shoes, hairband

Borrowed - my friend has loaned me her lucky sixpence she got for her wedding

Blue - I randomly have two piercings in my right ear (and only one in my left) thanks to an ear-piercing gun failure incident in 1993 so I'll wear a blue sparkly earring in my second right hole.
