On Wedding Insurance - slightly preachy mini-rant.

BubbleBees, 18 June, 2015 at 09:45 Posted on Planning 0 12

I'm sure this has been said before, but I'm going to say it again.

Buy Wedding Insurance!

I had planned to take out a policy months ago and didn't get round to it. If I hadn't dithered the policy would have covered me being unexpectedly made redundant earlier this week. I now have a policy in case anything else happens.

It shouldn't be that big a deal for anyone to find less than £100 to buy a policy - you could be saving yourself thousands. Its not just about suppliers not turning up on the day but all those things that could happen between now and your wedding day.

Sorry to hear about your redundancy BB. I have insurance but I must admit I would never have thought about it covering us in that eventuality.

Do you have a plan of action? Will you look for something else straight away, or can you take a break for a while?

It might vary between policies. I'd definitely recommend anyone looking at a policy to check it covers redundancy. It would also apply to the redundancy of anyone who had promised a significant contribution that they'd no longer be able to make.

I'm taking a few weeks off - any longer and I'll be climbing the walls! I'll start on applications once my replacement phone arrives plus I've been provided with an 'outplacement' company as part of my package which might turn up something interesting.

I'm sorry to hear about your redundancy and I can only echo what you've said about buying insurance.

Unfortunately it does seem a lot of couple's not prioritise it and some have never heard of it. Sometimes people simply don't realise just how cheap it is. You can get good cover for less than £40. Probably far less than you will be spending on stamps! Put in that context I urge everyone to get it.

It's for those unexpected events like redundancy. Or as happened earlier in the year where a popular venue burned to the ground. I had a wedding once where it was at serious risk of being cancelled due to a bomb scare. I've heard bride's where close members of family become ill.

I know insurance is really boring and not anywhere near as exciting as choosing a dress or flowers. But for the cost & time it takes it's definitely worth doing.

For me the peace of mind is well worth it.

I have literally just bought wedding insurance this morning - £57 from Debenhams with a £20 gift card coming in the next few weeks.

For me, it's the peace of mind. I hope to all goodness I don't need to use it, but it's there if worst comes to worst.

Thank you. It'll work out ok. Smiley smile

100% agree with everything you've said. Dull as a tarnished dull thing but SO important!

It should be near the top of everyone's list right after the venue & budget.

Sounds like great value. I've gone with John Lewis which was around £78 - but I have purposefully over-insured.

Im sorry to hear this and hope you get something sorted soon.

You have made a very good point, even if you never use it, buy it, as you just never know.

I hope you find something quickly lovely!!

I brought ours a month ago, finally had some spare cash and proceeded to do it, we can’t afford to lose the money we have put into the wedding so really do think it’s a good idea to get! Even if you don’t use it ever it’s still well worth the money spent just as a backup.

Just remember. Insurance is always a total waste of money........until you need it!

So sorry to hear about your redundancy.

After reading this I have just bought some insurance - only 5 weeks till wedding and lots of payments due in next week or so. Got it for £37 from Dreamsaver weddings.

Thanks for raising this point as I've been umming and ahhing over insurance for months.

Good luck finding a new position ?

Ageed it's worth it. Our wedding is more than we've ever spent on anything (our house deposit was less!). It would be devastating for us to lose even part of the money so I'd rather spend the £35 and have piece of mind. I've spent £35 on stuff I don't really need, I see wedding insurance as an essential.
