Online Honeymoon Fund Pot

Ashley, 29 November, 2022 at 12:00 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 0 6
Hi everyone

We plan to ask guests who would like to give us a gift to contribute towards our honeymoon / experiences we can book for our honeymoon. Has anyone used an online “pot” that gives you freedom over where you spend the money that people gift you? Any recommendations gratefully received!
Thanks x

We looked at these, but a lot had fees attached for our guests and us and felt uncomfortable with that. In the end we set up a bank account and asked people to donate directly, it meant we had control but also less risk as you never know if these companies will still be around by the time you come to cash out. Our guests found it so much easier to just transfer money or give us a cheque.

Thank you! I can see that some of the fees can be quite large or there’s a restriction on the way in which you can subsequently spend the money gifted to you. I forgot about the cheque option! We’ve been to a wedding recently where the cards and money contained were stolen so are v cautious about cash. Appreciate your response

Yes that is always a concern, we said cheque or bank transfer only, and said no cash in case it got miss placed. It seemed to work, we had most of it through bank transfer to the account.
Also remind people to do cheques to one of you and not in your new name, I had to get people to reseend as they made it out the my new name but bank wasn't changed! I them just transferred it to the honeymoon accoutnonce cheque had cleared

We used an online honeymoon pot which took 5% fee. We like it as we had a little welcome message, it sent automatically thank you replies and alerted us as to when a donation was made. It felt a bit more weddingy if that makes sense and not just a money transfer which felt impersonal but its a personal preference really.

That’s the one I’ve been looking at - thanks for sharing your experience and giving some insight on how it actually works x
